  • New Neutral Minion - Invincible

Oh Bonemare, how you've been powercrept :P luckily the keywords here are friendly Undead or this would slot into any midrange or control deck.

  • Death Knight’s Upgraded Hero Power Is Confirmed To Summon a 2/1 Ghoul

Ah man, I was hoping it would've summoned two ghouls for the extra corpses. Less appealing to play Odd Death Knight now.

  • New Neutral Spell - The Sunwell

I'm assuming we'd also get any DK cards, even the ones with runes on them? Also keep in mind that the April standard rotation will reduce the card pool so The Sunwell could end up like a 2nd Deck of Lunacy. Luckily the only mana cheating is the spell's initial cost which is balanced by the reduction in value.

  • New Mage Spell - Arcane Defenders

Oooo this is a nice big arcane spell for big mage. I'm sure nobody would be update getting this off of Magister Dawngrasp and it's pretty great stall for that deck. Sure you may still use Drakefire Amulet due to the tradeable aspect, but this isn't a bad card.

  • New Mage Spell - Arcane Bolt

It's a simple damage spell to showcase the Manathirst mechanic. Will probably only see play after the Standard rotation when First Flame gets snuffed out to wild ;)

  • New Paladin Minion - Blood Matriarch Liadrin

I'm not really sold on this legendary yet, just coz you need a lot of setup beforehand. It might work in a Cariel control paladin but you still need to buff this minions attack first, play the card then another minion to receive the divine shield and rush. Seems a bit too slow, unless you forego the hand buff and just slot this into an aggro list.

You need to calm down, Flux. Blizz is trying to have a little bit of fun here and you're turning it into existential dread. Relax.

  • New Paladin Spell - For Quel'Thalas!

5 damage for 2 mana... where have I seen that before... but ofc this is better coz +3 damage is permanent till the minion is removed. This spell should see play in a new aggro list.

Watching Twitter fall apart since Musk took over is hilarious. 44 Billion for a site that'll be worth a tenth of that in 5 years. It's Yahoo and Tumblr all over again.

The only reason I call it misinformation is because we are in a card reveal season. They really should consider their card reveal season sacred and with Blizzard having poor communication, it is my belief they deserve to be scolded for it. The only way they learn is if people are willing to talk about it.

There were so many different ways they could have gone about promoting the fact that card reveals were starting today. They could have showcased a piece of art and asked people what their favourite cards revealed so far are. Or, if they really wanted to dive back into Knights of the Frozen Throne's adventure, they could have easily done a "Card reveals are starting today, and we'd love to see Death Knights pull x from the past. What cards are you hoping DK gets?" which would have let them be silly (100 Armor, lol) but also encouraging people to talk about the new set and what they want to see.

Today was a poorly executed April Fools joke.

  • Blizzard's Battle.Net Twitter Tweets Fake Hearthstone Card Reveals For Death Knight's Core Set

I get it. Had they mentioned that it was a joke in the initial tweet, it would not have been issue. I agree with you.

  • New Death Knight Minion - Chillfallen Baron

    A staple in every deck.

  • New Death Knight Minion - Skeletal Sidekick

Only for aggro but in most cases you'd rather just play Beaming Sidekick because 2 extra health is worth more than 2 extra attack.

But DK does come with plenty of reborn minions meaning this card is never really without any targets. If it turns out to be consistent then its just 1 mana 2 damage, which might just be good enough.

  • New Death Knight Spell - Runeforging

This spell will be good. A specific tutor with a mana discount, making this spell cost zero mana for 1 corpse will be relatively easy. We've only see Frostmourne so far, but I'm pretty sure there will be many more weapons to come.

  • New Death Knight Spell - Anti-Magic Shell

This is interesting. Compare this collectable version of the card to Anti-magic Shell of old, 1 mana decrease does make some sense. At 4 mana, I would say this spell was the worst option out of the uncollectable Death Knight cards back in KotFT. The unholy rune requirement makes sense, seeing as you'll be summoning lots of tokens, a nice board wide buff is just what you need in an unholy aggro token DK deck :)

  • Frostmourne is a New Legendary Death Knight Weapon for Path of Arthas Revealed by IGN + Anti-Magic Shell

Funny thing is that Frostmourne used to be the worst DK card you can get off lich king, and right now it's here again completely unaltered. I dont rate its chances to be honest. 15 damage to the face is nice and all but in 2022 ignoring board on turn 6-7 tends to equal to death.

Anti-Magic Shell is too slow and weak, but in unholy decks it could work because you're likely to be flooding board, and with so many reborn minions it might be impossible to keep DK's board empty unlike paladin.

I generally believe that people should do their own research before doing anything. But, I know that I'm definitely not in the majority when it comes to this line of thinking. Because of this, I do think companies should keep their communications factual as much as possible.

That's the fun thing about everything in life though.

    George Carlin put it best.
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."

Everyone has a different frame of reference. Folks that are most hardcore about Hearthstone don't really see the game in any other light. "Oh but people will know x y z", except they don't. This is something I've had trouble communicating to our writers about over the years because it isn't something people remember about. Creating content has to be done in an accessible manner. Sometimes it is worth pointing out "obvious" things because although we may think they are obvious, they really aren't Learning how to think like other players is super important.

I honestly don't believe Blizzard puts a lot of thought into their social campaigns. I also believe they are very bad at promoting their stuff and this certainly didn't help their case.

    What a weepy drama queen.

  • Blizzard Reveals 5 New Death Knight Cards for March of the Lich King

    Alright, some cards to look at;

Body Bagger - As much as corpses are important, this card is just too vanilla in my opinion. Its like playing a 1/3 in your deck that does nothing else. Too bad this isn't 2016, where that alone would have been enough.

Malignant Horror - To be honest, if DK can buff minions this card might just be insane enough to actually see play. Even without buffing essentially you're paying 1 corpse for two 2/4 reborn minions for 4 mana. What's there not to love? Only way it doesn't get played is redundancy, either there being better cards or the deck simply doesn't care for sticky minions.

Corpse Bride - A casual 12/12 worth of stats for 5 mana, sure why not? Yeah it takes up 8 corpses, but if it wins you the game then nothing to it. Unholy decks would love it

Runeforging - Just broken, but there's always the chance that DK simply doesn't have many weapons other than frostmourne, which even discounted is fairly worthless today.

Chillfallen Baron - A slower arcane intellect that comes with a 2/2.

  • Hearthstone Card Reveal Season for March of the Lich King and Death Knight Is Set To Begin - A Different, Synergistic Schedule

Good call! Although I personally didn't think it would end up being the exact same.

  • New Death Knight Weapon - Frostmourne

Ok so Frostmourne is basically identical to the uncollectable version from KotFT which is good. If they had buffed this weapon, it would've been OP. It's now a fair and balanced card in this day and age of HS.

  • Giving Feedback Like A Developer: What?

    https://playruneterra.com/en-sg/news/dev/giving-feedback-like-a-game-dev/

Basically, an exceptionally condescending way of saying that we don't want to listen to player feedback because we believe you to be misinformed and inarticulate.

So I'm going to try my best to communicate as if I was writing LOR's design document:

LOR is a card game where you attempt to satisfy unique questing conditions in order to level up (flip) your preffered champions.

These "quests" should guide the player towards certain "archetypes" and deck building decisions in a organic and non intrusive manner.

The implications being that these quests are powerful while also remaining mutually distinct and worth pursuing (this is where the fun is.)

    Deck break downs:

Actual constructions of decks are comprised of reactive plays (fast speed spells) pro active plays (burst speed spells) and creatures wrapped up in a compellingly unique turn based pkg.

    The Problem:

When decks become too homogenous, when champion level up conditions don't feel game winning, when reactive plays like stuns and bounces out weigh the value of playing high cost followers (5 plus) the game starts to lose that fun factor.

    The conclusion:

People including popular streamers start to migrate from your game, you start introducing low impact expansions and nobody plays those cards, you also dangle the threat of rotation so people can't even play the decks they want to play and your game loses popularity.

    The solution:

The same thing it's always been heavy handed comprehensive balance patches that nerf what's reducing viability and buff what's not viable. It's unfortunate, but it's the only way you can commit to keeping LOR a compelling and fun experience and get those streamers playing again.

Rather then say write a massive blog post about how your players are inarticulate trolls who can't speak "designer" when it's your own choices and decission making drawing your game and community into question.

    oooh yeaaaaa!!!!!

looking forward to those new rewards 🤩

  • Frostmourne is a New Legendary Death Knight Weapon for Path of Arthas Revealed by IGN + Anti-Magic Shell

I wonder if Frostmourne could actually be really good in Blood DK. You're an uber-control deck with massive survivability and you can turn your opponents threats against them.

Then again, it does play right into Insatiable Devourer....
