What happened to inspect?

Ever since 2.4 hit the PTR every time I try to inspect someone ingame it goes into his profile and shows his gear from before he joined the game ( or from 1 hour ago lets say )? Is this a bug or what?

I havent seen any blue posts that address this and I wanted to raise my concerns.

Current 2.3 "Inspect" mechanic - brings up pop out window that shows what the user you inspected is currently wearing LIVE. Any changes to gear/gems/skills can be viewed in real time.

New 2.4 "Inspect" mechanic - brings up the current hero that the user is playing with, but through the "Profile" view. This is not a live view, is not up to date.

This has been frustrating when playing on the PTR, but I imagine it will be worse if it hits the live servers in this way.

Playing in 4 man groups when you are assembling a group of 4 always relies on synergy between the players. Who is wearing Iceblink? Effectious Toxin? Which mantra do you have? Which law do you have? Inspecting players LIVE gear is the only way to confirm that the build other people in your party is setup properly. Now, its easy to say "just take the other persons word for it" - but the reality is, in my experience this is not reliable. The whole point of enabling 4 man teams is to get people that don't know or trust each other to play together. The 2.4 inspect mechanic disincentivises people to do this - playing with new people (for me at least) is a 3 part process:

    1. Find a person running the build you want to play with.
    2. Inspect the person to ensure they have the correct stat priorities, gear and skills.
    3. Play with the person to see if they know what the hell they are doing.

Taking step 2 out of this process makes it a lot less desirable, especially when the changes to experience and monster health make it a lot more viable to play solo or in smaller teams. I imagine this would be even more important to Hardcore players, where incorrect skills/gear could potentially lead to death.

Gearing properly across a 4 man party is one of the many "skills" that comes with playing Diablo, the new mechanic takes away from our ability to use this "skill" and I think its a negative change.

Now, if a response was to come that the 2.3 "inspect" mechanic in some way added to server load and lag, I would suggest that we should be given a "refresh" button on the 2.4 mechanic so that we can at least poll the servers to give us the latest information (even if this was limited to 1 per minute or something).

I am aware that there is a bug report done for this, I dont see the need to duplicate it but just wanted to discuss the issue in more detail. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/19891059260#1

This is a quality of life thing, on face value it doesnt seem like a big change, but I hope I am not alone when I say that this is a negative change and would love some kind of comment from a Blizzard nephalem on this issue.

This is actually a known issue, and it's been passed along appropriately. The swap to showing the "Profile" view when using Inspect is intentional, but it is supposed to immediately pull up-to-date information.
