Zei's Stone of Vengeance and Pets in 2.6.

After some discussion in another reddit Necro thread where I mentioned Skeletal Mage's Zei bonus being calculated from the Necro and not the Mage; I got bored and tested how Zei's works with non-Necro pets and can confirm that (with at least Mystic Ally, Sentry, and Hydra damage) that Zei's damage bonus is now calculated from the PLAYER (2.6 PTR) and not the PET (2.5 Live).

For those that don't believe this is how it works currently on 2.5, please test directly yourself on 2.5 live if you can and post some results. (Click for my tests with Hydra) I didn't test every pet, and want to point out this doesn't apply to 2.5 Manald which is a proc and not a pet attack and is currently calculated using the player distance.

Since I still can't access the PTR forums, can't check to see if this is a known bug or undocumented feature!

Edit: Nevalistis clarified below that this is an intended bug fix. (Zei scaling from player in 2.6 vs from pet in 2.5 live)

Thanks for the clarification! Is the same behaviour intended for distance based passives (Power Hungry, Audacity, etc.) and Legendary Affixes (Starfire)? Such that, if those Passives/Affixes are still determined by the distance between the pet and enemy, this is considered to be a bug and we can report it?

Yes! Please do let us know. While there's always the potential for special cases, if you notice something distance-based behaving inconsistently, it never hurts for us to go back and do a review.

As a side note, the fix for Zei's should also be applying to Power Hungry and Audacity already on the Beta.

Turns out this was actually an undocumented bug fix! Thanks for bringing it to our attention so I could have our folks look into it. We'll be getting it added to the patch notes.

For clarity, it is intended that when a pet deals damage while Zei's Stone of Vengeance is equipped that the bonus is always determined by the distance between the player to the enemy hit rather than from the pet to the enemy hit. This should make this gem much more intuitive for pet classes across the board.
