The case for Mech Mage - Early Legend #1
Short story
Ever since the season started everyone has been experimenting with Hunter, Druid, Warrior and Warlock. It turns out that Mech Mage still beats mostly all of them very heavily, and the rogue that forced it out of the Meta is no longer popular.
This is the list I used: Decklist/Proof
I ended up having a 75-35 record (68%) going positive against basically every popular deck. The stats are probably inflated due to me starting to play the deck at rank 14~. The matchups are still solid.
Card Choices
It's a pretty standard list and there are only really two choices to talk about. This just goes to show that the archetype is strong in general.
1x Annoy-o-Tron & Black Knight: Annoy-o-Tron is a great card against Face Hunter and agressive decks, and using it correctly can win you a lot of games. This is a card you want to run two of if you expect Hunter, but the ladder became full of Druids so I swapped one out for a Black Knight. These two cards are what you usually swap around depending on what you expect to face.
2x Water Elemental: A great 4 drop. It stops Warriors, Rogues and Paladins from using weapons. It also trades down and even really well and can make for a great play on turn 3 with the coin. It has a lot of uses such as trading along with your Mirror Entity target (usually Belcher, Keeper of the Grove, Druid of the Claw) to kill a unit in the midgame. It's one of the few ways to kind of deal with a Sylvanas, and almost the only way to deal with those pesky Grim Patrons.
One of them is in the deck because it's harder to deal with than a Mechanical Yeti and "heals" you against Hunters. The other one made its way after the meta slowed down.
Secrets: Earlier there was a thread about only running one secret, but this didn't seem as solid due to more whiffs on Mad Scientists. There is a case to be made about which secret to run however. I played 1x Mirror Entity 1x Counterspell for a while, and it won me quite a few games against Hunters and Warriors. They will suspect a Mirror, and a well timed emote can cause them to use their turn on a spell that does nothing, usually winning you the game. There's also the added benifit of being able to play two Mad Scientists at once, and being able to play the second secret out of your hand. Counterspell turned out to be rather weak in the mirror match because of Spare Parts and failed to slow down Druid much.
TL;DR: More people should be playing Mech Mage as it beats most things on ladder. The list I used isn't completely refined but still manages to do well. I'm curious as to why Mech Mage is so underplayed.
Iksar
The most impressive thing about this post is that you beat SKT1Faker to get legend. Nice work.
