S6 Meta Decks by Khymera

Hello Reddit, my name is Khymera. You may know me from watching your favorite big name streamers or from my own stream. In this post I will be giving a decklist and a paragraph of detail for each class in no particular order to give some ideas and insight for those that are interested about the state of the meta. Edit:The numbering is messed up, sorry for the inconvenience. I do not post usually and stick to lurking.Edit: Also for naysayers I just hit legend on NA on stream for this season: https://i.imgur.com/KcIIiEw.png

  1. Hunter: Now that hunter has resurfaced and is here to stay for the foreseeable future, it is imperative to understand the class. There are 3 common themes currently for hunter decks; midrange(all beasts),midrange w/traps+scientist, and zoo hunter(undertaker variant). The first variant has an easier time rolling control decks and keeping board control, the second is very balanced and able to deal with zoo extremely well, and lastly the third variant can get the easiest wins with a good starting hand by inflicting too much damage to recover out of but has the highest variance of the 3.

  1. Priest: Priest should now be taken seriously on ladder, every legend player I’ve currently played against (2 of them) have run deathrattle tempo priest. Control priest is, at least for the moment, an artifact of a past meta and is in almost every way inferior to this new priest(for various reasons that I won’t go into here). Going forward I think this type of deck will be on par in frequency to hunter at legend ranking.

  1. Rogue: Rogue is still strong as ever, with the aggro rogue varient even becoming relevant again do the increasing frequency of taunt lacking and slow decks. Miracle is still extremely strong (I see this question a lot) and many players that exclusive play miracle ended last season in the top 100 in NA.

  1. Warlock: Coming in 2 variants warlock has actually become weaker to the delight of many players. The far more common deck zoolock has suffered heavily due to the influx of hunters, who if they run explosive along with unleash should suffer very little problems against zoo, especially with the benefit of extremely fast cards such as mad scientist. Handlock has for the most part gone extinct on ladder for the moment also due to hunters BUT should the new priest become too popular, handlock is its hard counter and will resurface to beat it down.

  1. Warrior: With the addition of Deathsbite from Naxx in addition to some other cards (belcher, ghoul, etc) warrior can hold its own with any other deck in HS, arguably if not the strongest then the most consistent control deck in the meta at the moment.

  1. Druid: For the first time in a long time I do not think wild growth belongs in any relevant druid deck(*EDIT annnnd dog made me eat those words, always keep an open mind). With the abundance of hunter and zoo innovation was needed for Druid to become relevant again. Kolento’s list that took him to rank 1 has shown that Druid can still be a threat to any deck on ladder and has laid the knowledge about how druid must evolve with the meta. My deck mixes elements of zetalot’s deathrattle priest and kolento’s druid to make a list that as consistently delivered me wins this season.

  1. Mage: Mage is in a difficult place. Freeze mage has no place in a meta filled with hunter, however much like handlock, can destroy the new tempo priest deck. Secret mage is a lot of fun and can provide some wins (at a relatively high variance) if you would like to shy away from standard classes.

  1. Paladin: Control paladin is a very scary deck, containing the best board clear in the game (ideal for getting rid of a lot of sticky cards or mitigating damage) The only real downside of paladin is if they draw poorly against snowball deck and cannot stabilize the board in time. Generally paladins can beat most other control decks in a late game slugfest. Buffadin/token paladin is not something I personally have experimented with or have seen in action so I won’t make any comments about it. This deck is a very popular deck I concocted and has been used by dog, ziss, and zilea on stream.

  1. Shaman: Shaman is a very high variance deck based alone on the hero power being random, however shaman is still relevant and will probably come back later in the season in popularity as more people learn how to beat hunters with it and continue to shy away from the old standard decklist.

Thanks for the post! Great catalyst for discussion. (I'm also really enjoying that paladin deck! Where is it from?)
