Some of our players have wanted a more competitive experience within Hearthstone, and with Tavern Brawl we have a good opportunity to try new things. It may work out, it may not. We won't know until we try!
It's very clear in the client - there are a couple different warnings before you commit to entry, one specifically saying "for our most experienced players". It should get the point across!
We do have a big warning sign for that week that pops up when you first enter the Brawl so our players know that this Brawl is different and not for the casual player.
This brawl is pretty different. We want it to feel more like a tournament, and so the rewards are weighted heavily towards the high end of wins. The reward for 0 wins is a single pack. If this scares you, you may want to wait for next week's Brawl and just enjoy the fun on Twitch. :)
The flipside here is that the rewards for 12 wins are somewhat ludicrous.
I'm sure that like arena they give you something that is at least close to the value of the entrance fee no matter how many wins you get.

For the rewards, it is like Arena - you'll still get a little something if you don't go all the way to 12 wins.
Once this Brawl goes live (it takes over the spot of a "normal" Tavern Brawl), it'll last for however long a normal Tavern Brawl lasts in your region.
