Introducing Fireside Gatherings - Get a New Card Back!

hello. I've had an issue in open beta and release where having the Players Near Me feature on seems to be the cause of the client either crashing or freezing my computer (guaranteed to occur in one session) (I am pretty sure its this feature--I've done tones of debugging, and having that disabled always stopped the crashing/freezing). Do I need that feature enabled to get the card back? For example, can I just play 3 games with someone else in my house on the same network, without having that feature enabled? thanks.

You should also report this on our Bug Report Forums.

You don't need to have the Players Near Me feature enabled to get the card back. Keep in mind you still need to have at least 3 people on your network on Hearthstone and play the 3 games in order to get it.

Did I get this completely wrong, or is a subney = LAN/same wifi?

    Basically. Same network connection.

I live in a rural area with a small ISP. What if there is nobody else on subnet?

The ISP doesn't matter, it's your network. So if you invite people to your house, and they hop on your home network to play with you, you can still get the card back. (Following the rules mentioned in the blog, of course.)

I go on a school with around 900 students and everybody uses our school's wifi. Does this mean that it should show everyone having the feature enabled and in Hearthstone? I've never seen anyone.

They have to be logged in to Hearthstone, have Players Near Me enabled (in Options) to show up on your Players Near Me feature, as well as be in the same subnet.

but the "Players Near Me" feature is staying right? just the card back reward will be removed at a later date?

Yup, the Players Near Me feature is here for good!

Can I get the card back by playing all three games using a PC and an iPad with two accounts?

Well, it does require different accounts. You can't be logged in to the same account simultaneously on the PC and iPad. If you have three different devices and three different accounts that are all logged into Hearthstone at the same time on the same network and you play three games with those accounts, I suppose that is possible. Tedious, but possible.

ack, but can just as easily be done from the comfort of your own home as well. What is a subnet? Basically, a chunk of a network. Hearthstone uses the Players Near Me feature to see who is on

This is really confusing >_< so I have to have 2 friends plus myself on this subnet? which means we all have to be at my house? I can't simply have 1 friend over and this will work? It has to be 3 games as well?

A lot of the cases brought up in the thread are very niche, but in the most basic terms:

Have 3 players on your network on Hearthstone. Play 3 games with those people. Card back!

i have one last clarification to ask

At least three people (including yourself) must be logged into Hearthstone on the same subnet.

does this mean that there has to be 3 people (at least) logged onto the same subnet while i play 3 individual games? or let's say i play against 1 friend 2 times, while it's only us, and then another friend (still only us two on the subnet) 1 time; would that situation get me the cardback?

does this mean that there has to be 3 people (at least) logged onto the same subnet while i play 3 individual games?

Yes, and the games must be played against those people on the same subnet as you. The game will check to make sure 3 people are on the subnet.

or let's say i play against 1 friend 2 times, while it's only us

If it's only the two of you on the subnet, those games will not count. 3 people must be connected to the subnet.

and then another friend (still only us two on the subnet) 1 time; would that situation get me the cardback?

No. Picture it like this: Game checks for people on the subnet using the Players Near Me feature. At least 3 people have to be on the subnet. If three people are on the subnet, then you can start playing with those people on the subnet. Once you play 3 games with those people on the same subnet, you will be awarded the card back.

When it goes away will the same/a similar quest reward a different back?

    That I don't know. :)

Alright, thanks. We'll just all sit in the same room so (hopefully) we'll all be on the same Subnet (if our school does Subnets), and we'll just challenge each other on friends list since we all are friends with each other already. Sounds great, can't wait!

If you school is small, it may not even have a subnet. In that case, you just have to be on the same network connection.

how close is the "players near me"? I live in a fairly urban area, and I have had this feature enabled since it was available without seeing a person near me.

Players Near Me will show you people who are logged into Hearthstone that are on the same subnet as you. It's not necessarily proximity, it's the same subnet on a given network.

    Hello! Quick clarification question.

Some of my friends at school (like 10+ people) and I play Hearthstone (and love the game). It's not a very large school (not a University), so when this gets launched, if we get together in a room, and we use the "Play Near Me" function and battle against each other (in the same room on the same network), after three matches, we'll be able to obtain the cardback?

Yup! Keep in mind as noted above: Your existing friends will not show up on the Players Near Me feature. So if your school has a subnet, you and your friends need to all be on the same subnet in order to qualify.

I know the post doesn't specify how long it will be available for, but is there any clue? Or guess? Or guesstimate?

Even a minimum time like "we haven't decided yet, but at least two weeks" or something, would be a huge help.

It's planned on being available for a limited time, and we will give players advance notice on when it will become unavailable, but I don't have a minimum time frame right now.

Just two quick questions you may be able to answer Zeriyah,

    1. After completing the third game will the card back be immediately unlocked or is it rewarded at a later date?

    2. Can all three matches be played agaisnt the same player?

    1.) Immediately 2.) Yes

    Hi all!

I wanted to hop into the thread and clarify some questions that may arise from this announcement. The Fireside Gatherings are meant to be fun get-togethers, so you can meet new friends and get the card back, but can just as easily be done from the comfort of your own home as well.

What is a subnet? Basically, a chunk of a network. Hearthstone uses the Players Near Me feature to see who is on the same subnet as you. They can be people you do not know, or your friends. Play 3 games versus these people on the same subnet, get the card back! You can even do it from the privacy of your own home as long as you have 3 people on your subnet playing Hearthstone.

We had to specify subnet since sometimes, larger networks (like colleges or businesses) split their networks into smaller chunks. Those small chunks are subnets. Since Players Near Me will only detect people on your same subnet, you gotta all be playing on that same chunk to be eligible for the card back. If you're on a home network, you should be totally fine.

Do we all have to have iPads? Nope! You still have to follow ze rules though - 3 people, same subnet, play three games.

Do we all have to be on the same device? Nope! You all can be on iPad, one of you can be on PC and the other two on iPad, it really doesn't matter.

Do I have to be in a specific region? Nope! The Fireside Friends card back will become available to acquire on April 26th worldwide.

How do I know if someone is on my subnet? They will pop up in your Players Near Me. If someone is already on your friends list, they will not show in your Players Near Me section, so just ensure your friends are on the same subnet before getting down to business.

Is this only available on the 26th? Nope! It becomes available to acquire starting on the 26th. We haven't announced a date that it will end yet.

Can all three matches be played against the same player on my subnet? Yes!

I've followed the rules! Is the card back unlocked immediately as soon as I finish my third game or is it awarded at the end of the season? Immediately after you complete your third game. You'll get a fancy quest notification that will let you know that you've acquired the Fireside Friends card back, which is also in our blog post.

Happy to answer any additional questions that may arise!
