TIL that when naxxramas was developed, the blizz team thought about rewarding players with the golden adventure cards for beating heroic.

They didn't implement this because it was expected that not everybody could beat the heroic bosses. I personally like the Idea of getting golden cards through heroic.

I would like to here your opinion on this topic!

While they did say this at first, they tried to take it back and say that people would have had to have crafted the cards anyway-- that Heroic would have only unlocked the ability to craft the cards.

My theory at the time was that they were indeed going to unlock the cards outright, and changed their minds. However, my theory was that when they changed their minds, they reduced the price for the content. They had taken a long time to "discuss" how much Naxx was going to cost, and $20 was much less than people expected. I suspected that they could take an expansion from, say, $40 down to $20 and make just as much money by having "whales" spend hundreds of dollars on enough packs to craft the Golden cards.

It was always the plan to "unlock craftibilty" by beating heroics. You are referring to a "leak" that had tons of details wrong, this was one of those inaccuracies. We took that out because it felt like a really crappy thing to "earn": the ability to buy something else. We added the card back as a reward instead.

The reason we didn't just give out all the goldens (which is essentially what rewarding them for heroics would do) was to preserve the rarity expectations behind golden cards. This was our first expansion, so we wanted to be consistent and make sure golden cards felt elite and exciting (for both collectors and people playing against them).
