Ben Brode on Twitter: "Whispers of the Old Gods (if not all of Hearthstone) is definitely a "What If?" take on Warcraft lore."

but in some cases it can still impact the theme of the game or the theme of existing cards and characters. it goes into the direction of skins and gimmicks ala "batman in a pink dress" or "the joker, but as a good guy mayor"... when its done right, and fitting and creative and worth it, then sure i am okay with it, but the hogger and rag cards dont really click for me, especially when the original actual cards dont see play because of balance. thats the main point here: ragnaros seems like a real card, holy ragnaros will maybe always feel like that pseudo card from that old gods expansion that doesnt really pay respect to the character. and this is not about lore, or about the fun, lighthearted side of the game, dead chars are fine, murlocs are fine, new and rediculous stuff is fine, but there has to be a line drawn somewhere. i just hope we wont see 5 different ragnari or 5 "whatif" versions of every legendary.

edit: that being said the cards so far are still good or okay enough, i was just trying to make a point here.

good insight - thanks for your perspective.

Didn't some time/universe bending shit happen tho so he's back at warlords of draenor? I don't actually know the lore, that's why I'm asking

Yes, though Hearthstone came out before WoD. It got less weird by accident. :)

    Uther still dead though. :(

I am one of the butthurt lore guys who are super serious about their love of Warcraft, that the top comment loves to laugh at.

I was really enjoying that the game was starting to add lore to WoW by actually introducing characters (LoE) and revealing others (N'zoth).

Why do you have to screw it like this Blizzard? The original games have literally TONS of cool characters that are yet to be explored!

I think it's cool that we get to do both. We push the envelope and sometimes the WoW team digs it and uses it, but sometimes they don't and that's cool too. Sometimes we work together because we want to explore things like how N'Zoth might look and we want to get that right.

I personally love it. Do more dumb shit like GoodGuy Ragnaros. Partly because it makes me laugh at the butthurt lore guys who have to be super serious about their love of warcraft.

I hope we get Illidan, The Preparer.

Hey wait I'm one of those super serious lore people, too!

But having Hearthstone live in the not-always-canonical space means we can do silly, fun stuff without having to worry about how things all fit together. Example (and spoilers): Gul'dan died before Valeera was born.
