Oh i see. So you can pretty much only get goldens through Zola in DR? Damn, that one card gave blizzard a whole lot more work to do huh? Animating every card in the dungeon run.
We didn't animate all the DR cards, because yeah, Zola's cool but she ain't 35%-more-work cool.:P The golden border is hooked up automatically if something is flagged as golden, so you still get that bit of the sparkle (so /u/RevArtillery's spot on).
I know making Goldens is a waste but why is Rexxar not fixed by now?
Much as we love making goldens (there are a weird amount of standing 'rules' over who has dibs on what goldens based on what they like doing and shenanigans like that), 55 extra ones to support an easter egg for one card is like, another third of an expansion worth of animations, and the current ~160ish that expansions contain pretty much fills the entirety of a set's cycle. When it comes to easter eggs and whatnot we try to get as much bang for our buck as we can without anyone having to forget what their family looks like, which usually means leaning more on things like VO, or FX variants, smaller one-off things like that (or, in the specific case of goldens, jokes like the candy apple red Whirling Zap-o-matic).:)
As for Rexxar: as unpopular as they are, the dev replies linked in the Megathread give a more thorough and informed answer than I would ever be able to. It's not a decision I was involved in, unfortunately, so I don't really feel like I have much room or right to comment compared to a bunch of people who were serious stakeholders in the conversation and design. I know that's not a satisfying reply by any margin, and I'm sorry about that, but it's honestly the most helpful one I can give.
As for Goldens, I can agree that extra goldens for a joke that barely 1% of people will get, or complete, is pointless. I do appreciate the Candy Red paint job though.. that was fun.
I also know you have nothing to do about Rexxar, but you are the only Dev that replies anymore. I Just dont want you guys to pull an EA with Rexxar, and it sure is looking that way.
I imagine you already saw Mike's update on Rexxar (I didn't actually know he was going to make one when I took some time to reply to you, I just wanted to collect the rest of my thoughts on Rexxar into something coherent, lol).
I'm really glad that's the direction we're taking it. I think it's the best case for the expectation and fantasy that were set for DK Rexxar, and I think based on the art assets we chose to use and the backstory of it we described, people's expectations of how it would work were totally reasonable. And I'm glad players were willing to discuss it and advocate for it, throw their ideas for solutions out, things like that (could do without some of the nastier salt that gets thrown around, but it is the internet :P).
And hopefully it's a good lesson for us regarding what expectations cards communicate (across design, text, fantasy, art, everything, there are a lot of ways to make sure things are kept clear), and how to more accurately convey what we're aiming for so that we don't set people up for disappointment. Any case I'm getting rambly (sorry), so all things told, I'm just glad we're gonna keep adding Beasts. I think it's going to be awesome. :)

Haha oh god. I guess I brought that one on myself.
(I don't actually have time to do goldens anymore, much as I miss them - FX animations are my one djahb these days.:P)
