As everyone else here has said "you can! but blah blah" but as a Unity3D programmer I can say that having visible objects in the scene make it easy for anyone (artists, designers, etc) to come in and say "This looks like the right size/particle effect/blah blah" without having to run the actual game and then see it in the game. Unity has things called "prefabs" which are like 'ideas' of objects...then when you need the ACTUAL objects it makes a copy of the prefab and puts it into the actual game. While programming/editing you can see the prefabs but since there is no actual GAME running, you obviously cant see the ACTUAL in-game object. Having them off to the side like this makes it easy for someone to just pan over in the Unity editor and make any changes to it so that it's in-game copy will look right. A lot of Unity games will have multiple menus to the sides and when games were first being ported to VR it was common to look to the left and right and see options menus, audio menus etc floating off in the distance.

}:O Tuna and I are gonna hide all the greebles under the boards just ‘cause you said that!
OP’s probably got more giggles ahead though, a lot of the boards have stuff like this stashed to the sides.x)
