Gold Cards!
I've been wondering this since I started HearthStone years ago. I'm a sucker for vanity items, I gotta have the coolest looking things in games, I'm always so intrigued by the animations of gold cards, so much so, I wonder things like.. How do they animate these?
No really, how? Are they first animated, then the animation is stopped to make just a regular card? Or is a regular card made and then animated after? Since some cards have a lot going on in the animations I often wonder how they do it.
What is your favourite gold card? :)
Hadidjah
/u/czhihong covered pretty much all of it.^^ The whole animation is done using a single layered shader on a plane that just uses an RGBA mask, texture overlays, and a buttload of (fairly simple) per-layer animation settings. The base art is done first, and then we create a golden version from that.
A lot of the really elaborate ones are either just a really careful noodling of aforementioned various animation settings (things like texture scale, rotation, fading and tints, etc.), or truly insane flowmaps (our golden guy is some sort of weird savant when it comes to flowmap-driven animations).
My favorite is Corrupted Healbot because I'm selfish and I got to do that one and it took way too long and I love it like a child. It uses absolutely none of those sweet things I just talked about because I am a plebe.:B
