Hi Chris, just wanted to throw some love your way! Thanks for your work to the community, even when they don't seem to appreciate your (or anyone's really) efforts.
Hyped for Wednesday, hope you have a good time too and keep the bad jokes coming
Aww shucks, thanks miglito! Appreciate the kind words.
Wednesday is going to be a great, fun time. Haha, I will always keep the bad jokes coming... that's all I know!
Hi Chris. This is my first time watching the reveal stream you hosted, since I don’t tend to watch them live, and I do have some thoughts:
Relax. Relaaaaaaaax. It’s not a sports match. The mood of previous streams was more like (and this’ll sound weird) Whose Line Is It Anyways - the cards are made up and the points don’t matter, but they’re fun springboards for telling stories and letting personalities bounce off each other.
One of the reasons that the two-person reveal stream worked well is that there is The Revealer (the dev who can explain the design behind the set) and The Outsider (genuinely reacting to what is literally being revealed to them). What is your role on this spectrum? It’s really not clear.
Edit: “The Man Who Knew Too Much” is an odd way of putting it, “The Revealer” makes more sense.
Haha, I thought I was relaxed! Definitely some nervous jitters though, happy to be transparent on that. What do you mean when you say sports match?
To provide some more context (if I understand what you're getting at): The goal with a lot of what I said last time was to help guide the new / casual audience. In my opinion, we haven't done a great job with helping those folks understand what's happening in these streams and set rotation is a time of massive change. But you're right, there's a balance to it all.
As for why three people, I mentioned a couple of things below. My goal is to help provide more structure and direction, helping drive the narrative of the streams home. There are some areas that I could have absolutely have done a better job with that, and Wednesday's stream should have that patched up.
Anyways, thank you for the candid feedback. Appreciate you!
Well, the two main suggestions I remember seeing were to pre-record it and to remove the turn timer. As some people pointed out, there's no interaction between the stream and the guys presenting, so we probably can't tell if it is actually being done live. The latter suggestion is to help with removing some of that pressure on the folks on stream. Disabling the turn timer for these events would let discussion about the new cards or the situation go on for as long as it needs to without the extra pressure of the rope.
I might be forgetting one or two...
Gotcha, thanks for sharing! We've actually considered both items.
Pre-recorded streams can be tough. They usually come off "scripted" and have a different feel to them. It's an option we may explore but we want to preserve the excitement behind a live broadcast as much as possible. Definitely an option on the table though!
The latter suggestion is a great one, one we've discussed multiple times. Kibler is a pro, so he will be fine for this upcoming livestream, but it's something we are thinking through for future expansion livestreams.
Thanks so much again. If you remember the others, feel free to post away my friend!
The goal for moving towards the new 3-person format is a couple things:
Content creators already have a lot of pressure on them to do these streams well, having most of the hosting duties removed alleviates a majority of that. Folks like Kibler and Day9 are examples of fantastic talent who can do it all but not everyone has that same training / background.
Plus, this allows more of the team to be showcased, aiming to give more personality to it. There are always improvements we can make and want to make, so stay tuned for more changes in time. So yes, please do feel free to toss those up! Totally open to hear it out before Wednesday!
Lastly, one thing to note: the goal of these livestreams is to reveal brand new cards in a fun way! Casters are incredibly talented folks but we aren't wanting this to be like an esports broadcast, this is meant to be more laid back and appeal to a wide range of audiences (new, casual or hardcore players).
To very, very quickly summarize the subreddit's general opinion: A two-person group is much better for these situations, as it allows conversation to flow more smoothly. No trying to include a third person. Someone above pointed out how sports commentators are normally two-person teams. Another argument put forward is why the community manager is involved with the reveal stream. There's a general lack of obvious connection.
I'm not the guy you replied to, just noting some things I've seen. Personally, I'm all for giving it at least a second shot, although I do know of a few suggestions that got tossed around after the first Rise of Shadows stream if you care to hear them.

Wow they did not learn the lesson to get rid of Chris.
Would love to hear your thoughts behind this, if you don’t mind.
We are already making changes to the livestream format because of the feedback you all gave, so thank you for giving that! If you have more, feel free to share your thoughts... we’re listening. Feedback is the key to growing and getting better.
