This week's Tavern Brawl is "Brawl Block: Gods, Gadgetzan, Gurubashi" (June 19, 2019)

Chalk Board

Description: Construct a deck using ONLY cards from Whispers of the Old Gods, Mean Streets of Gadgetzan and Rastakhan's Rumble!

  • Rewards a Classic pack.

  • This is a Constructed brawl.

  • This is the first time we've seen this iteration of the brawl, but the third time we've had Brawl Block. The last time was March 27, 2019, when it was "Brawl Block: Year of the Mammoth".

  • Discussion thread for the previous Brawl Block.

  • Morning edit: See Joe Mag's comment re: the following 2 points.

  • If you don’t have enough cards to make a 30-card deck, just add one card and auto-fill to play. (I'm assuming it works the same as the previous few times we've had brawls like these)

  • The previous time we had this brawl, it was still possible to get Standard cards from other sets through, say, Discover. It may be different this round since 2 of the 3 sets are Wild; let me know if you guys see anything, I'll update in the morning. The Discover and random effects pool is restricted to the 3 sets in the block this round.

  • Renounce Darkness does not work correctly at the moment in the brawl: it will give you discounted Warlock cards, regardless of your opponent's class.

    Bears, beets, Battlestar galactica

Identity theft is not a joke, KFC!

(and yes thank you that is how I've been describing this brawl for weeks)

I found the last one of these really interesting because of the synergy the sets had (two mech sets, two hero power sets; I actually crafted Coldarra Drakes for my Even Mage inspire control deck).

I’m not really feeling the synergy from this one; the common theme seems to be “all these sets start with G” but like...what are the cross-set synergies even? Just about the only theme that plays across sets is Dragons. Maybe pirates. A lot of decks are “pick a theme from one set, probably Jades or C’Thun, and then fill in the filler/support cards from the other sets.”

Unlike last time I’m not really feeling like I’m seeing combos I haven’t seen before. At least not so far. Loved the last one so I’ll keep an eye on the format; maybe there’s an amazing N’Zoth deck out there or something.

Really appreciate the feedback, I get what you mean that these three don't have the same obvious or natural cross-set synergy. Something to consider going forward!

This is also correct, this is our first time limiting the discover pool to the allowed sets in the Brawl Block.

Just want to say, my opponent played Forbidden Shaping with no mana left and nothing popped out. It took me a second to realize that because of the restrictions there's no 0 cost minions available to summon.

Ha! That's interesting, yeah I suppose so, no wisps or snowflippers to be found.

Hey thank you for this brawl, block formats are one of my favorite ways to play card games! Question: would you ever consider adding a leaderboard to one of these block events or making it a Brawliseum? I know Tavern Brawls are generally meant to be casual events but there's no other way to experience a competitive event of this style. Thanks!

Appreciate it! It's certainly something we've considered, more likely on the Brawliseum side than the leaderboard. The challenge is we wouldn't want to force people to lock in decks to a format they aren't familiar with, I think that was a point of frustration when we did the Miniature Warfare Brawliseum. But yeah, thinking of a lot of different ways to reward mastery/create competition in Brawl Blocks.

Hey hey everyone! Couple things I want to emphasize with this brawl.

If you don’t have enough cards to make a 30-card deck, just add one card and auto-fill to play. (I'm assuming it works the same as the previous few times we've had brawls like these)

This is correct, you can queue with a deck of any size (minimum 1). You don't have to use auto-complete, we'll do the backfilling on our side.

The previous time we had this brawl, it was still possible to get Standard cards from other sets through, say, Discover. It may be different this round since 2 of the 3 sets are Wild; let me know if you guys see anything, I'll update in the morning.

This is also correct, this is our first time limiting the discover pool to the allowed sets in the Brawl Block. Really looking for feedback on this, how much does it change the gameplay, the deckbuilding, etc?

Other than that, have fun! I want to see what the best GGG decks are!
