Disappointing for me. PvE rates are too high to be interesting https://t.co/ZoKt4qBcFz

And is there a Shuriken damage nerf? Definitely wait-and-see but the monkey paw flinch is hilarious (I'm not part of the CANCEL FLINCH crowd) https://t.co/lhaHxLWXEW

@iihavetoes This feels like the struggles of balancing an ability set that's foundationally built upon mechanics that feel really good for you to use, and feel really bad to have used against you. It's a situation with no great solution.

@iihavetoes I'm very experienced with this sort of situation. If you balance based on data... Well, everyone still plays it because it's fun. The best players play it so its data stays decent. And everyone complains it's OP cause it keeps getting used against them.

@iihavetoes If you balance based on feel/complaints... Well, you end up with a significantly underperforming spec that everyone finally realizes is underperforming, and mass exoduses from. So the solution has to be somewhere in the middle.

@iihavetoes And that usually means making very small changes at a time, because the risk of overshooting is so large, trying to focus on tuning knobs that have large effects on 'feel' (especially target-negative feel), small effects on 'actual performance'.

@iihavetoes If anything, that list of changes look like *drastic* overnerfs. Nerfing 10 different things about a spec is *incredibly* risky, because it drives down the predictability of your changes' results.

@iihavetoes Take Revenant for example. "Generally in the top 6 specs" (out of 30). Well, half the specs aren't even remotely considered PvP-viable by the community (and I have no reason to expect data shows any different). So really, being 6th out of 15 is... fine?

@iihavetoes Certainly not worthy of being nerfed terribly hard, based on data, anyway. And the "better players play this spec, driving up its numbers" effect cannot be understated; it's actually huge. So in terms of statistical balance, Revenant is probably mediocre. And yet, a dozen nerfs.

@iihavetoes You don't. Fun is nearly entirely* subjective and feel based, which can make these decisions so obscenely hard (and make you fall back on data when faced with it). *There's some quantifiability through surveys and the like, but that's limited, and uncertain.

@iihavetoes You laugh saying that, but it's not out of the question. Sometimes as a designer in these situations you just decide that the +fun of the people playing it is less than then -fun of the people they're playing against, and so decided to just nuke it, so people stop playing it.

@iihavetoes But I'll tell you as a designer that those are some of the most depressing decisions to make, because you know that you're taking away something that's legitimately really fun, so much so that tons of people are using it *despite* its mediocre statistical performance.
