Here's my big brain idea: We completely dissolve E3 and every major studio just carves out a weekend to do something like what happened with Blizzconline. You do all your big announces, engage with your community (cosplay contests!) and own the media narrative for a couple days.

It's ludicrous that we cram all these game announcements into a single week so that no one gets any traction and everyone except maybe 1 or 2 games gets any oxygen. Honestly, who does this format actually benefit?

@joemag_games Under the same logic, wouldn’t you think even things like blizzconline hurt individual franchises within blizz? Why not have a hearthstone weekend then a wow one them a diablo one, etc.

@joemag_games E3 is a lot of eyeballs, I think most of the games announced get more eyeballs then they would on their own, even if the resulting press coverage afterwards is cannibalized by other announcements.

@joemag_games In the case of things like starfield, I think it’s a pretty big win. They get to piggyback on the fan bases of other content to get new eyeballs while still dominating the front page announcements on any site.

@IksarHS I think breaking it up by studio or publisher still makes the most sense, there's bleed-over and you actually want some cross pollination. If you like HS you might like this new thing in WoW, etc. Bethesda fans usually like Elder Scrolls AND Fallout.

@joemag_games I would assume the whole point of doing E3 announce is to catch the eyes of people who wouldn’t attend your company weekend event.

@IksarHS @joemag_games ^ This. This is obvious, but, the more specifically-focused an event is, the fewer people outside that focus watch it. That's not a good thing for something like an announcement.

@Celestalon @joemag_games I do think it’s hard to argue the indies don’t win a little though. Hard to imagine more press coverage for the alchemist potion game than they got in the last two days.

@Celestalon @joemag_games No offense to them obviously, it looks awesome. I just doubt I would have ever known about it outside of a major press show.

@IksarHS @joemag_games Yeah. 2% of E3 attention is still orders of magnitude more than you'd get solo, as an indie.

@SuperiorDavidHS @IksarHS @joemag_games We did that for Ashes of Outland. I think it was pretty cool.

@joemag_games Who does this benefit? This benefits people who see something they weren't already expecting. (And the developers of that thing.)
