Learning how to disagree is a hard design skill to learn. Sometimes it's disagree, identify a decision and move on. Sometimes it's disagree, dig into more discussion, and keep pushing for that thing you believe in.

If you are working on a big team there will always be many decisions that get made or features that get shipped you don't necessarily agree with, but that is part of working on a diverse group.

As someone who works on a live product, I actually find it difficult to openly discuss game design philosophy. There are many aspects of Hearthstone I don't necessarily agree with, but just because I don't agree with them doesn't mean those things are wrong.

I think you'll find that most developers who openly discuss design either work alone or are working on unreleased products. I find this unfortunate because discussing failures or disagreements on live products is something that could be greatly beneficial.

@IksarHS @bbrode How is then, when someone disagrees with you about something to do with your game, your first and foremost priority is to block them? Why not invite discussion? Bit of a double standard here don't you think?

@SeaOfNPC @IksarHS My guess is the disagreement was delivered in a shit way

@bbrode @SeaOfNPC Given that I have less than 20 people blocked and half of them are spam, you’d basically have to be a hall of fame level asshole to get blocked by me for a disagreement.

@IksarHS @bbrode Not even necessarily blocked though. On so many occasions I've seen people disagree with you (in a polite way @bbrode). But if you're hardstuck in thinking you're right and that's it's your way or the highway, you just shut them down or completely ignore them. It's disheartening

@SeaOfNPC @IksarHS Oh shit were you talking to me? I mean if I disagree with them, what do you think I should do instead? I also did get a LOT of messages when I ran the ship so it’s possible I missed some.

@bbrode @IksarHS No no, I was talking to Dean. I was just referencing you when I mentioned the people being polite

@SeaOfNPC @bbrode Just a matter of limited time. If I answer a question and someone disagrees with it, I rarely respond. I barely have time to even answer half the questions that come up let alone get into further discussion on addressed questions.

@SeaOfNPC @bbrode And the truth is it’s pretty rare a player brings up a legitimate concern that we haven’t already discussed internally and came to a thoughtful conclusion. It doesn’t mean our conclusion is always correct but it does mean a Twitter reply is unlikely to shed new light.
