I miss when all game reviewers just gave a score. Is there some reason not to? Is it because they really, really, really want you to read the 10 pages of words before the score?

      @IksarHS Iskar, are you talking about long reviews, or are you talking about reviews that go without scores?

        @jason_wilson without scores

          @IksarHS TY. These reviews are like other pieces of criticism that don't use scores -- evaluating the game as a piece of media and art more than a product. Scores also come with so, so much baggage in gaming, esp. when "7/10" is considered by some to be a "don't play it" score.

            @jason_wilson A fair point. I think the end result for me is I just don't go back to the site to look at their reviews anymore. Sometimes I'm in the mood to read the review, but usually that is a result of seeing the score first and being intrigued as to why.

      @IksarHS Part of the reason is review scores are so distorted (how is 7 average??) and also they just set some kind of expectations and give ammo to a lot of shitty folks who would otherwise need to read our words and not just get mad at the score.

        @Squiblon Fair. Generally when I look for a review I just want to know 'should I play this game'. If I'm very interested in the game, maybe I'll read all the words, too.

          @IksarHS @Squiblon What score answers your question with "Yes"?

            @Celestalon @Squiblon In this context? Usually 9.5 or 10. If I'm reading a review it means there is a game that I wasn't thinking about playing that I'm looking to be convinced.
