Some players express a desire for “deck building” to matter more, though what they seem to mean is that they want poorly-built decks to be punished less Highlander cards were great for that purpose, as they could reliably bail out weak decks with massive power spikes

      @J_Alexander_HS I, too, would like to throw my 30 favorite cards in a deck and win most of my games. As long as no one else also plays my deck because then it wouldn’t be cool anymore.

        @IksarHS @J_Alexander_HS Tbh, that's one of the biggest appeals of MTG's commander format. A more casual environment where you can get away with sub optimal decks with pet cards. It'd be a dream to see something similar in HS.

          @coolboypai @J_Alexander_HS I think that has more to do with who you are playing. Commander when people discuss it are the games they play with their friends on the weekends where everyone wants to have a good time

            @coolboypai @J_Alexander_HS I suspect if there was an online ranked commander ladder with prizes (is there?!) a meta with the best commander decks that feel so bad to play against would emerge.

              @coolboypai @J_Alexander_HS I do love the format though, 100 cards no dupes def leads itself to different feeling games leading to unexpected stories. Sounds like a big reason for it’s success.

                @IksarHS @coolboypai Feels like the meme deck issue is more of a matchmaking issue than a balance one

                  @J_Alexander_HS @coolboypai There is a pitch that’s pretty difficult to accomplish where we turn casual into quick play, allow all of your objectives to be complete there, and match based on a really complicated formula that takes into account skill and deck quality. Hard part is the last one.

                    @J_Alexander_HS @coolboypai The goal being that when you queue up, you are likely to find someone looking for a similar experience.

              @IksarHS @coolboypai @J_Alexander_HS There is one in MTG Arena called Historic Brawl. As far as prizes goes it's the same as any of the other ladder formats on that game.

                @TiagoTaparelli @coolboypai @J_Alexander_HS Historic brawl is commander?
