@ben_heathstone I helped write the scripts for a bunch of the reveal videos. Some of them are simple, like pretty much just “play the card, mouse over the options.” This one I had a vision and whoever played and recorded it did it even better than I imagined it!

@ben_heathstone Btw, since you've seen the video, here's the script I submitted for it. The person recording absolutely understood the assignment, and the Augmerchant at the end was that added bonus that just put it over the edge for me. Great job, b-roll person! https://t.co/3XuTmEnOMd

          @hsdecktech @ben_heathstone The augmerchant ping that summons a 2/2 is *chef's kiss*

@hsdecktech @ben_heathstone How many times did the ectoplasm spawn the guy with divine shield and ruin the video?

@adam_noodelman @ben_heathstone We'll have to ask b-roll recorder, lol. I mostly just send the script out and then get a video back (sometimes with questions, or issues if something is bugged or doesn't work how I thought).

@hsdecktech @ben_heathstone I'd love to have that "cheat the card into your hand" feature, would make testing so much easier for me :)

@ZerotoHeroes_HS @ben_heathstone Become a dev on the Hearthstone team and you've got it. 😉

@hsdecktech @ben_heathstone Who actually is the b roll person in this case?
          • hsdecktech

Posted 3 years, 9 months ago (Source)
@Coldrun_MN @ben_heathstone I don't know. My understanding is that there's a team of them, who I don't interact with that often so I don't know who all they are. Also, they don't sign their work or anything.

@hsdecktech @ben_heathstone I'm having trouble figuring out how to do Step 2. Any tips you can share?

@SwaguarTV @ben_heathstone Step 2 is easy. First, get hired onto the Hearthstone team in some capacity that involves working with dev versions of the client...

@hsdecktech @ben_heathstone Wow, this is some neat insight. I always thought it was like more “here’s the card you’re revealing, and make a short clip about it”. But there’s a script, a super dev client, and directions. Love to see this kind of things, really cool process! 😬

@Gambito_HS @ben_heathstone We put these together and then send them to the person/org doing the reveal. Then they can do their own stuff with what we give them.

@hsdecktech @ben_heathstone Little question, do you use debug/dev mode game versions to test these with ideal conditions, or just use the live interface to start friendly matches with decks drawn to fill the situation? Like, can you control what card is drawn and what card isn't? or is it a scripted match?
          • hsdecktech

Posted 3 years, 9 months ago (Source)
@cinco5cuatro4 @ben_heathstone That would be a question for QA folks, if any feel like chiming in. I suspect they test in either/both, especially if something is being reported a lot on live but can’t be replicated in dev mode.

@hsdecktech @ben_heathstone This scene for example, demanded to have all those boars in hand, which isn't impossible but requires to have them drawn before fatigue, so I assume it's scripted, instead of trying over and over until the perfect hand for both players align.

@cinco5cuatro4 @ben_heathstone Oh, I got thrown by “test.” These b-roll videos are done using some dev tools, yes. I never record the videos so I don’t know exactly how it works, but they do have access to cheats.

@hsdecktech Excellent! Thanks for the insight. I was thinking as I watched that video, “dang they really nailed the power of this card” so many wyvens! 😎

@ben_heathstone Yeah, you usually write the scripts to try to show what's cool about the card. Some cards are really straightforward, so showing the cool thing is pretty much just showing the card, but some of them you can set up stuff to really make it pop.

@Old_GuardianHS @ben_heathstone Me too--that was like when the actor ad libs a line and it becomes iconic. The person recording absolutely nailed it.

@hsdecktech @ben_heathstone This video screams, "Tell me you hate Deathrattle Demon Hunter without TELLING me you hate Deathrattle Demon Hunter."

@RTwoCTwo @ben_heathstone It was more just me trying to think of the coolest way to summon as many wyverns as possible. Initially, it was just a Glowfly Swarm on the enemy side, but Deathrattle Demon Hunter was just better for this purpose.
