I watch a lot of esports. Outside of Blizz stuff, I love Apex... But my favorite player just switched to Halo Infinite. Their first big Halo tournament is this weekend. I'm trying to give it a chance, but... I just cannot stand the All-Battlerifles rules they use for pro play.

It's absolutely very skillful and clearly fair. But I find it so monotonous to watch just all battlerifles bursting away continuously. I don't think it's for me. :(

@Celestalon What do you think good rules would be?

@T_B_Morgan I'm not familiar with Halo esports enough to feel like I have a good answer to that, but something where a variety of weapons get used, and combinations of weapons are valuable. Maybe just starting with a pistol? I dunno.

@Celestalon Starting with just a pistol could be fun, would give a round a sense of progression that I feel many shooters, sans ones in the CS vein lack compared to games like League, or Starcraft

@T_B_Morgan Yeah, it's weird how much the rules chosen throw out gameplay elements. Weapons on the map, recovering weapons from opponents, most map control, comboing weapons together... There's still a ton of gameplay left, but it's weird that so much is chopped off.

@Celestalon If you liked snipedown, you might like sweetdreams (but you’ve probably already watched him). Similar relaxed vibe, not a rager.

@AaronCLerner Yeah, I swapped to watching Hal, due to already knowing the team, but been considering following a different team, because Hal's style is very much not my preference. (No judgement of Hal, just not my style.)

@Celestalon Yeah, Hal can be a lot when he loses his cool. @Rogue is a good one too for a top-level, chill streamer.

@AaronCLerner @Rogue Yeah, I follow and watch Rogue a fair bit, he's solid. Doesn't do tournaments though, and I love watching ALGS from both 'my' team's PoV and the mainstream at the same time.

@Celestalon Wait... They're only allowed to use battle rifles as in starters or even power weapons??

@DragonEmperor Well, everyone starts with a BR, and BRs are so powerful that that's all that is used, apart from maybe a rocket or two.

@Celestalon I feel like that removes a large part of what makes Halo, Halo... Zzzz.

@DragonEmperor Having completed the campaign, I'd say that's one of my big complaints with 343's Halos: Weapons don't have nearly as much strength/weakness/combo. The shield vs health strengths were one of the most ingenious designs of Halo.

@Celestalon @DragonEmperor I feel like halo reach and 3 did this very correctly, and it has since been «lost» in a sense. I get why, but i still miss it too.

@mellowindiffere @DragonEmperor Yeah, just kept track of it and the last game shown on stream had 90 kills. 80 were BR+Grenade+Melee 8 were sword 1 was a shock rifle snipe 1 was a heatwave
