i'm working my way through bloodborne as my first major "i am determined to beat this" souls game. i have a spicy opinion i'm grappling with: the FromSoftware soulslikes are often praised for super clear telegraphing and enemy reads, but my god i could not disagree harder

@kchironis Ugh ever since I read this I’ve been contemplating getting through one of these games for the first time myself and it’s honestly agonizing to even think about playing one. Why am I even excited for elden ring? Why does the aesthetic have to be so cool.

my interaction with bosses and non-humanoid enemies so far has been messy. unclear hitboxes and long droopy appendages that move in super unpredictable ways. windups that are slow and soupy. what am i missing? i can memorize telegraphs, sure, but isn't readability the point?

@kchironis One of the reasons I've never liked Souls games is because I feel the design language is "memorization is the point." The game is as readable as a Rob Zombie album cover

@MorelloNMST @kchironis I also find this to be true. Less about seeing a visual queue and reacting. More about so much trial and error that you can memorize the timings of an enemy. Once you memorize everything an enemy is going to do, the subtle, otherwise unnoticeable visual queues are now useful.
