I've heard a few times people confused about why you don't see your BG board every combat round. Someone, I think Dean, talked about this before, but I wanted to reiterate it b/c I just heard it come up again.

      The reason is that many people feel that part of the value of cosmetics is that you show them off to other players.

        With heroes and finishers, that's easy: both players always see both heroes during combat and only one player wins, so both players can see that one player's finisher when they win.

          With boards, it's trickier because the board is shared. There are (at least?) three options: 1) a split board where each player gets their half; 2) a full board where players take turns playing on their board; 3) you never see your opponent's board, only yours

            All three options have their pros and cons. Option 1 can get messy, is less unified, and means less space and fewer new elements per new board; but both players see their board at all times.

              Option 3 means you lose that "show off" option, which makes the cosmetic pointless for a lot of players and, of course, means A LOT less visibility for the product--which means way fewer people even know if they want to get it. But, the people who do know max their value.

                Option 2 gives full value of the board, but only some of the time. It gives that "show off" aspect, but can lead to confusion. That confusion can make people think they're getting less value, since they don't see their board all the time.

                  I wasn't in the talks for it, so can't say why option 2 was chosen. I'm sure there are additional pros and cons that were also considered, like technical costs of the various options, or legal/business concerns.

                    IMO I prefer Option 2 over Option 1 just as a fan of the game and art, and I'm glad they went that route. Option 2 versus 3 is closer to me, but considering how often people tell me they didn't know things, even if we post it in like 3-4 places, I think it was a good call.

                      @hsdecktech Option 2 is what tft did before BGs was released and honestly it worked wonders on there so it makes sense to want to translate other's successes to one's game

                        @seanbfry Seems possible, but two things: 1) Blizzard doesn't like things like alternatives within extra UI or sub-settings or whatever--too much friction; 2) giving the option probably mostly kills the benefits of 2, since people who have it would probably pick 3.

      @hsdecktech This is really informative, I didnt know any of this. Thanks for sharing. Personally I would rather have option 3. It feels bad to buy a board and not see it half the time. I dont really care about seeing other players boards or showing mine off. I want the cosmetics I picked.

        @fusrohdaniel Yeah, if I were asked this question before I started this job, I for sure would’ve picked 3 as well. But now I’ve seen so much value in that informational aspect (it being like my entire job lol).

      @hsdecktech I looked in the shop for the BG'S stuff. How we do buy the new finisher and other travern skin. Also is there going to be a option one day in BG'S to buy the skins of all the battleground heros, Bob skins and other tavern people and the finishers or the boards with gold?

          @hsdecktech Okay but will we be able to purchase the skins like our friends over in standard and wild with the gold so that way we can have BG'S skin that aren't around anymore?
