interesting to me to see nerfs to stuff that seemed good but not buggy good, is this normal for a FROM game? https://t.co/iJLvoQrTR7

@IksarHS Nerfs are usually related to PvP. Also it's pretty clear some stuff was just generally kind of hot (see the quest steps being hotfixed in) so there was probably some general tuning they were behind on, contributing to the bunch of random buffs to things.

@HamletEJ The Sword of Night and Flame nerf is just sort of deflating to me. It's sort of hard for me to imagine that a change like that is overall positive for the experience unless it's somehow crushing everyone in PvP, which I'm relatively certain it's not.

@HamletEJ Especially the Mimic Tear thing, it's relatively deep into the game and essentially only affects the PvE experience, right? So strange to me that PvP live-service balance tuning strategy is applied to a single-player narrative experience game.

@HamletEJ It's not even really a critique, just genuine curiosity if there is some reason for it I don't understand. Beyond some weapons having a high-use rate and that being perceived as a bad thing.

@IksarHS SoNF: not a PvP maven, but based on buzz I'm guessing it's a problem. Yeah, it's a good question about the philosophy about disruption to a (kind of) single-player game. I hadn't thought about the implications of Mimic Tear.

@IksarHS I guess it must be: even though ER is so freeform about letting you find your way to build around problems and even cheese things, they have some worry that things can be too degenerate even for PvE. Maybe thinking ahead to when info spreads and some things become too common.

@HamletEJ The hoarfrost nerf is the only one I was sort of excited for because that weapon made watching speedruns a lot less interesting. Which is another question, are those speedruns just invalidated forever now? Does that happen a lot in speedrunning community?

@IksarHS @HamletEJ I am also curious to what degree SoNF was nerfed I hope it doesn't impact it too much it was really great to point to that weapon as a guiding light for new players.

@Tabayrak @IksarHS @HamletEJ Did some testing last night after the patch, around a 30-35% damage decrease. It’s still viable, all the nerfed items are (except hoarfrost, they really did a number on it). But mimic and SoNF are still pretty good.

@Gambito_HS @IksarHS @HamletEJ the funny thing is there are still way WAY more powerful items. The thing each of these have in common is they are all unlocked with little "risk" or in other words combat. Maybe that played into the nerf.

@Tabayrak @Gambito_HS @IksarHS Maybe this explains Moonveil? It's at least a fight--although it seems super popular to get early.

@HamletEJ @Gambito_HS @IksarHS Yeah there is "some" barrier right? Where as perhaps Mimic Tear was like too little effort for the scale of the reward? But Also Mimic Tear currently wasn't the best summon to begin with?

@HamletEJ @Tabayrak @Gambito_HS Yeah, stuff like Blasphemous is gated behind a pretty tough (though cheeseable) fight. Did they nerf the 11k xp chicken that runs off a cliff? That seems like a good target, honestly. Probably resulted in more overall player power than any weapon and motivates boring gameplay.

@IksarHS That's still in the game as of last night
