There are many threads like this one going across the industry right now, about how unacceptable the harassment that gamedevs receive from players is. It's all true. I experienced tons of it in my time on WoW, everything from death threats to physical assault. It's ridiculous. https://t.co/EEVTx1mDZa

Thankfully, I've experienced nearly none of that on Hearthstone, despite remaining very public and open (I even keep my DMs open, something relatively unheard of). I'm appreciative that the HS community has treated me well enough that I feel comfortable being this open.

Because I really do love interacting with reasonable players, hearing feedback, having a dialog where possible. It warms my icy heart to see the happiness on people's faces that I had a part in creating.

@Celestalon Why do you think the WoW and HS communities have behaved so differently? Do you think it’s connected at all to game genres? Or maybe a maturing of the fanbase in general?

@NimyL That's something I think about sometimes, and I'm not sure I have a clear answer. Some things that I think are at least a factor: - More lighthearted game. - No personal character to base your identity on. - More casual game. - Playerbase culture has more reasonable expectations.

@Celestalon There is nothing quite as dystopian as having to tell a loved one that you’re getting a few death threats every hour and not to be concerned — but you’re going to have a go bag packed anyways because it’s safer that way. 2011, 2015, 2018, 2021.

@AdamHolisky Early in my career, I remember hearing that personal security guards had been hired to protect a coworker for a while, after some death threat was investigated and deemed to be actually credible.
