language learning thought bunch of chinese players thought it damages all enemies before the chinese version was out. im fine with neutral pronoun, yet it does require english learners/teaching to keep up. like it also took a while for me to switch from "uguys" to "yall" https://t.co/bWybOA7zv3

      @BennidgeZ Uhm I do think this is wrong. Not the neutral pronoun’s fault, it’s just that it did not specify it was the minions at all. It should say “their minions” instead of “them” @hsdecktech

        @cerealforme @hsdecktech wait wait now im confused... does it deal 3 damage to the enemy hero or enemy minions? or hero+minions? @Celestalon @Songbird_HS @MyntyPhresh

          @BennidgeZ @cerealforme @hsdecktech @Celestalon @Songbird_HS @MyntyPhresh on your opponent's turn, it is a shadowed spirit. on your turn, it is a blank 4/3. the damage only goes face https://t.co/Hvm1YAsXfJ

            @RidiculousHat @cerealforme @hsdecktech @Celestalon @Songbird_HS @MyntyPhresh so it IS just a matter of neutral pronoun right?

              @BennidgeZ @cerealforme @hsdecktech @Celestalon @Songbird_HS @MyntyPhresh correct. "if it's your opponent's turn, deal 3 damage to the enemy hero" is the wordy version of this effect

                  @BennidgeZ @RidiculousHat @cerealforme @hsdecktech @Songbird_HS @MyntyPhresh I'm confused about how minions got involved at all. Is there a translation issue?

                    @Celestalon @BennidgeZ @RidiculousHat @cerealforme @Songbird_HS @MyntyPhresh Non-native speakers read “them” as plural and assumed that must mean more enemies.

                    @Celestalon @RidiculousHat @cerealforme @hsdecktech @Songbird_HS @MyntyPhresh see this is exactly what i was saying. to many english learners (in china at least), the word "they/them" still just means "plural form", not catching up on its modern usage. leaning english as a foreign language is hard enough to begin with, while english is also still evolving

                      @BennidgeZ @Celestalon @RidiculousHat @cerealforme @Songbird_HS @MyntyPhresh Not to get too in the weeds, but this isn’t a new pronoun thing. “Them” has always been used in this way. Do agree English is confusing, though.

                      @BennidgeZ @Celestalon @RidiculousHat @cerealforme @hsdecktech @Songbird_HS @MyntyPhresh Can concur with Bennidge here. In Thailand the pronoun “they/them” has always been taught as a plural pronoun.

                        @fishonaheater @BennidgeZ @RidiculousHat @cerealforme @hsdecktech @Songbird_HS @MyntyPhresh Person A: "Hey. I have a friend that's looking for a good decklist for ladder. Any suggestions?" Person B: "Sure. What classes do ______ like to play?" What would fill that ______?

                          @Celestalon @fishonaheater @BennidgeZ @RidiculousHat @cerealforme @hsdecktech @Songbird_HS @MyntyPhresh Back in my school days (25 years ago), the question would be considered wrong already, because it's "a friend" = singular. So it should be does not do. Usually followed by a "he" or a "she".
