i was verified because i posted good content on here for free for years. i wrote for outlets all over the world i was proud of earning that distinction as a creator now when i see it, i assume it means 'someone wants to feel important but has no skills' https://t.co/hIHde9gbxl

i am a little sad that it's going away. i honed my skills over years of content creation. despite a relatively small following, my impressions and engagements are insane, because i post real good. i am sure those numbers will go down. that's fine. i dont need them to pay rent

i do not wish to be mistaken for a loser begging for attention, so i will not be paying for twitter blue there are plenty of features i would pay for. but the man in charge of the product thinks that everyone is a loser edgelord redditor like him so we don't get those features

the reality is that the old twitter verification program was imprecise and the fastest route to monetization was to split its four functions up: 1. verified real human person 2. verified real actual business 3. public interest account 4. celebrity/creator/person of interest

#1 you want to reward people for verifying their identity, putting 2FA on. if something is GOOD for your platform, encourage it #2 is freelo. getting blue check for businesses was a pain. simplify. charge. free money #3 govt / other, again, charge business features

#4, 420k accounts for people that are creators, celebrities, notability, etc. if you want these people to pay for things you need to give them features that make it easier to be on here. it is insane to me that he truly expected us all to pay to look like a weird loser

there are a solid 20 years of data from social. entire platforms have come and gone. this isn't rocket science. there was so much free money here and they just threw it all down the toilet for no reason, and are going to make sure the platform sucks as much as possible

i have paid for twitter before. i had advertising accounts. i gave the platform a lot of money. i have no problems paying for something to get something in return what i don't want to do is pay money, get nothing, and then look like a weird loser for the privilege

no-one can even tell me whether, if i did subscribe to blue, whether i would keep my notability check or whether it would say Twitter Blue Subscriber on there i've seen other legacy verifieds who did subscribe, got their Notability check, then had it disappear within hours

it's just such a fucking unnecessary disaster, of course only 1.5% of verifieds are going to pay to keep their check marks, the platform destroyed what it means and no-one can even tell us whether we'll keep our original classification why throw money over the fence for that?

@chhopsky Personal perspective: I'm in that 1.5%. Not because I want to support that asshat (I don't), but because I find the additional features offered worth the price for me. I doubt they're worth it for very many people though, and the asshat discourages people further, so the 1.5%… https://t.co/fmnwF8jqVB

@chhopsky I don't care/want the algorithm prioritization, and the checkmark is meaningless now (if anything, it's got a stigma attached to it that may dissuade me from keeping it). I just want the in-line twitlongers, editing, undo, and better videos.
