@IksarHS I do not wish to abuse the system. But here goes: Does the high amount of play that new Alex and Taelan are seeing surprise you, and is it likely to create issues for sets down the line this year?
@IksarHS (My curiosity here stems from the fact it both shows the core set working as intended - letting all players have access to good staples - but also risks the issue of old that some legendaries felt almost auto include at their cost.)
@timothydclark Surprisingly (to most) the core set sees less play than basic/classic did, at least as a percentage of all cards used. When you factor in that the core set is free that is even more surprising.
@timothydclark The hope was that we could make the game easier to get into, change the perception of the base sets being as weak as they were, keep the same or lower overall playrate, and do it without powercreeping expansion sets.
@timothydclark We... did it. Go team. As far as Alex/Taelan go, our intention was to make powerful cards people would play but cards like Alex get old quickly.
@timothydclark The cards players remember most are cards that start the game (wyrm, trog, imp) and cards that end the game (fireball, alex, leeroy). So in neutral, if we have a finisher we'd like it to be fringe or only in particular decks.
@timothydclark Otherwise you run the risk of games all feeling like they end the same way. Alex checks all of these boxes, but isn't so far over the line that an obvious change is in order. Taelan is definitely safer :)
Joking aside, if this was true it wouldn't surprise me. Many complaints cannot or won't be addressed. To confirm that is unlikely to generate positivity.
