      @HenryMildestein Yeah this was my initial reaction, like it sucks for the mpl/rivals but if they bring back the old pro tour this is kinda gas

        @andersoneclair @HenryMildestein 😬😬😬 They told us they have no intentions of going back to the old system, there will be no path to magic as a career anymore, and they will be more focused on other aspects of play (commandfests etc.) Hopefully we get some set championships/GPs. But there will be no pro dream

          @mtghofbot @andersoneclair @HenryMildestein OP will not be explicitly designed to support competitive Magic as a career path. However, there will be Grand Prix, PTQ, and Pro Tour – like events Our focus will be the amount of play and the prize money, and less focus on the lifestyle or it being economically self-sustaining

            @MagicEsports @mtghofbot @andersoneclair @HenryMildestein Why have other Esports been able to do this model successfully but Magic has chosen not to?

              @AdamECohen @MagicEsports @mtghofbot @andersoneclair @HenryMildestein Card games are inherently flawed as non-spectator sport. You have to know a game reasonably well to understand whats going on while you can just randomly start watching a Valorant or fortnite tournament to understand the point.

                @Eaterofpasta @MagicEsports @mtghofbot @andersoneclair @HenryMildestein Hearthstone is doing quite well.

                  @AdamECohen @MagicEsports @mtghofbot @andersoneclair @HenryMildestein 1 example and was designed basically to be an esport. Any other card game that has tried has failed. Just not in the cards sadly.

                    @Eaterofpasta @AdamECohen Hearthstone was NOT designed to be an esports game. The Hearthstone competitive scene is heavily critiqued and has plenty of it's own flaws/issues.

                      @Daggerd1404 @Eaterofpasta @AdamECohen At no point in the history of Hearthstone has the game team ever considered the game to be a viable esport. And that's coming from someone who worked on HS esports.
