Loot Boxes can have two of the same item inside. Should they?
So, this just happened.
Not really much of a big deal for me, since I have most things that I want, but I think at the very least anything you get out of the box should be distinct from each other. It would be nicer to the other players who aren't farming shards, at least :)
Apparently this is happens in Overwatch as well, so my guess is that this is intentional rather than an oversight.

FWIW, it can only happen on non-standard loot chests. The base progression chest is set up in such a way that it can't happen. But, the chests that increase the odds of an item of a certain type existing (a rare+, hero-specific item, event items, etc.) have to be set up differently. It's rare that it happens even with those due to the size of the item pool, but possible.

When you reroll a chest, you're effectively opening a new chest of the same type. If the chest type guarantees an item of a certain type, the reroll will too. If it doesn't, it wouldn't.
The event chests don't guarantee an event item, but do have a significantly increased chance of dropping an item from the event pool.

Hah. Fortunately, I'm not in marketing. No one would enjoy that. ;)

Same thing applies to those. Those chests don't guarantee any particular rarity, though, just that one of the items is associated with a hero. So if you get a hero-specific chest that has a skin and reroll it, you'll still get an item associated with the hero, but it may be a spray or emoji set instead.
If you ever see an example where this isn't true, send it my way to look into.
BlizzTravis
Yeah, we got that feedback a lot and we'll probably take a different approach next time. For these chests, there weren't any common items that could be used to guarantee a drop when you don't get a rare or higher.
BlizzTravis
The stylized ones are associated with the hero, though not the event ones as the hero-specific chests aren't event chests. I'll mention to the tagging issue to the folks who set that up and see if they can get the metadata tags to include the hero names where they don't currently.

The way that chest is set up, every slot pulls from a unique pool of items. It's possible there's an error where a particular item is appearing in more than one pool, though, so if you see this happen, please send me a screenshot and I can look into what's causing it.
Again, though, that's only the base chest.
