Placements should be done only if you haven't played enough game in the ending season

In some cases placement are necessary. I can think of a returning player whose skills are now a bit dull. Generally he belongs lower then where he was. Another case can be a newcomer with good mechanical skills and previous moba experience. He generally belongs higher then the average new player.

But for people who have played during the season from start to end i think the placement become just un unnecessary lottery which can punish unlucky player and reward the lucky.

A good system can be somwthing along the line of "play 60 games during ending season and at least 20 on last month and you can skip placements. To have reward for new season you need at least 10 game played"

Numbers are made up but you get the concept.

To give some perspective, placements have two primary purposes.

The main reason: getting players who don't have a rank their initial placement.

The secondary reason ties into one of the main complaints we always get about ranked play: players feeling like they are stuck in a particular rank. The combination of placement games before your rank is set and the increased uncertainty at the start of the season gives players an opportunity to shake that up a bit. That's a double-edged sword, though, and the increased movement can be both up or down depending on how well you do.

What he's saying is that if there's a player who continually played HL throughout the season, and has an established rank and performance, then they should be exempt from the starting placements of next season and be able to pick up where they've left off without having to prove themselves all over again.

And for people who feel "stuck", they should have the option of not playing more than, say, 20 games in a season, opening themselves up to fresh placements in the next one, much like how it is now.

Oh, I know what he's saying. I'm just explaining why they exist. It's unlikely we'd create a system that lets players opt out of placements, so the real question is whether to have placements for previous ranked players at all. Answering that, its important to understand why they are there.
