Why Open Division top seed not automatic qualified for crucible?

In the HGC pro division, the top teams automatically qualify for the big events with playoffs being used to decide the second/third place team. I think consistency in the open division should also be rewarded in the same manner.

Teams breakup and reform. Lots of teams aren't formed from day 1. So later in the season you wouldn't have most even participate in open div tournaments if they had no chance at top 2 point totals, thus making the back half of the season pointless with little participation

A lot of this. We wanted to give the option for a diamond in the rough to exist.
