Did Blizzard forgot to increase Volskaya Foundry appear chance like they did with all new map? 10 game already and still haven't seen the map

Or is it just my bad luck? :(

The system doesn't currently support weightings on maps. It's just a random selection. That's why, in the past, we temporarily reduced the map pool when a new map launches so it can show up more frequently.

That generates it's own salt, though, so this time we just added it to the normal rotation instead.

Thanks for the reply. As I am sure you have read over the past few days, please consider accelerating the release of the tie-in brawl to the new map (as with The Return to the Mines) to coincide with the release of the new map - you may be able to make a few more people 100% happy (instead of just 99.5%) :)

Unfortunately, the brawl rotation schedule doesn't line up with the standard patches making that tricky.

But...we did put it into custom games immediately for folks that want to practice.

Should be ashamed of saying your system doesn't support something, it's 2017 you're not an indie company anymore.

    Nothing to be ashamed of.

Regardless of the year, there's a finite number of development resources available to spend on making things and a far larger list of things we want to do than things we can do.

We have to make hard calls every day on what is a priority and, what would be shameful, is spending those resources on something like adding weightings to map pools to make a particular map show up a bit more frequently, which we really only desire to happen once or twice a year, instead of on something with a much larger impact on the game.

If you do plan on adding weighting in the future, might I suggest you switch to some sort of bag method at the same time? The problem I have is not playing new maps or not, but playing the same maps frequently. In the long term, this averages out, of course. But on a given day it can be frustrating.

    So how about this?

Given a map pool with N entries, in a game with X human players, create a draw pool of NX2 entries with X*2 entries for each map. In a standard 10 player game, there would be 20 entries for each map.

For increasing the weight of individual maps, simply increase the number of initial entries in the draw pool after this step.

Then loop over the set of X players. In the loop, look at the player's match history for the same game mode and consider the last N games. For each of those games, remove one instance of its map from the pool, if one exists.

Then randomly pick from the pool.

This has the effect of making maps you have played on recently less likely to be chosen. The effect works at the individual level and bubbles up to the match as a whole. People playing in groups would see a stronger effect than people just queuing up with randoms because they have a shared match history. People with no match history simply wouldn't have an effect on the pool.

This also has a natural effect of preferring new maps in the rotation at the beginning of a rotation change, as they won't be in the recent match history for matchmaking games.

You can tweak the *2 parameter (and correspondingly, the number of games to consider) to change strength of the effect. You can also make the effect stronger for more recent matches by removing 3 instances for the most recent map, 2 for the next, and 1 for the rest. (Just make sure the sum of whatever weights you give doesn't result in an empty pool.)

There are a ton of methods for doing this sort of thing to balance random vs. fair. Tetris alone is pretty involved.

There's a desire to add weightings at some point in the future, but its not a big priority item. It's not a very hard thing to do, but it takes developer time we'd rather spend on something with more overall impact.

You changed the wrong one. The first should be "it's" because you're saying "It is just a random selection." The second one should be "its own salt" because you want the possessive form.

Thanks. For some reason, I can never keep those straight.
