The (potential) biggest change I am looking forward to with skill based MMR

I haven't seen much discussion about this aspect yet, but the biggest change that I am hoping will come out of skill-based MMR isn't anything to do with how the MMR is calculated or a potential increase in how quickly you can attain your correct MMR or even how it might make it easier to get out of "MMR hell".

My hope is that over time, having skill based MMR implemented into the game is going to have a positive effect on people getting tilted and giving up on the game. Whether it be in the draft, after getting stomped by the enemy team or just generally being upset at the play of another (or all) of the members of their team. My hope is that despite them thinking it's a 100% chance of a loss (regardless of how ill-advised that sentiment is) that the knowledge that they will lose less MMR by continuing to try and play properly that they, in fact, will continue to try and play properly instead of just giving up and feeding/trolling/AFK'ing/bm'ing etc.

Even if there is some way to game the system if it creates this change in the behavior of the average member of the community I think it's 100% worth it. Bad games are not when I've lost, they're when my team has given up and is no longer trying anymore. I think this has the biggest potential to increase the average quality of Hero League matches of anything Blizzard has done yet.

Time will tell if this helps, I figure it will be many months even after the release of this before the effect might start to become noticeable. But I'm hopeful!

So with the new system, as long as you are winning some of your games, you gain more MMR when you win and lose less MMR when you lose doing the strategy I mentioned. Thus you can gain MMR while still having a losing record.

Here's the thing...the stats being compared against are the ones that already correlate with winning more in that situation.

If you're playing in a way that has been correlated to winning more, you're already going to win more over the long run and the performance metric is just helping accelerate the MMR gains that would have come anyway.

If, instead, you're playing in a way that correlates with losing more, your performance metric is not going to be a positive adjustment.

Effectively, if you're trying to game the system and doing it in a way that makes you more likely to win, you're just playing better and the system is going to reward you. If you're trying to game the system and doing it in a way that makes you less likely to win, you're playing more poorly and the system is going to penalize you accordingly.

For people that care mainly about increasing their MMR, the best thing you can do is still just focus on playing well and winning the game.
