Why HotS is sooooo Zoomed In - Clip of Khaldor

Fun story but it was mostly because of viewing distance and Stitches' hook. Stitches' hook was the longest skill shot in our game and the camera distance was such that it wouldn't give him a huge advantage. Once we got characters like Chromie that challenged that as well as Stitches got a few nerfs to his hook some of us were able to argue for pulling the camera back. As an artist I've always been in the camp of pull the camera back. But again, fun story :)

    Kina spittin out some facts!

I suppose heroes like Genji and Hanzo added the need to zoom out because of their swift strike and traits. Really all the crazy mobility heroes we have. Interesting!

Yup them too. Long range heroes made the decision easier to make.

As a game designer / developer in a small company, the zoom rate is a back and forth fight I have with the artists (which are all amazing) all the time. So when I saw this clip, I thought, "heh, it's a struggle even blizzard is having." Seems like it's not the case :_)

I'm not saying someone might have argued that point so I don't doubt Khaldor heard that from someone but a decision is often far more complicated than that. One of our pillars is "game play first" and giving one hero a larger advantage to swing the game falls into that category.
