So when will we get lore based skins?

I remember two or three official responses acknowledging it but instead of dragonflight themed skins alongside Deathwing we will get more toys. And then I assume we will get Caldeum Complex 2.0.

Yes, Kinabrew said that when I asked him for next community skin.

They promised lore skins this year. Making skin takes nine months so I would expect them for start of next year.

To be fair what I said was https://www.reddit.com/r/heroesofthestorm/comments/csi37h/lore_skins_i_want_to_see_in_2020/ and in that response there's no time frame. I know what's coming out at the beginning of the year. I think it's pretty cool but it's not lore skins. It's fun to get excited and we're super happy that you do. I see a lot of speculation and it's been awhile since a good lore skin was dropped. In the first half of next year if you don't see Lore skins I don't want anyone to be disappointed because of something I didn't say. I love you guys. You're the best! Remember, we want lore skins. We're figuring out where we can put them.

I just want to clarify that no single Blizzard dev should be held responsible for this!

We do want our feedback taken into account however, this thread for instance was one of the most popular threads of 2019, which argued for more Blizzard/Lore skins and less "Nexus" skins for a while. This was even acknowledged by Blizzard (yourself or other devs) both on the thread and elsewhere numerous times.

I assume the dilemma is tying them to game-events, but skins don't necessarily need to be tied to events. Alterac was an awesome event with great Blizzard skins, but it's not the only delivery option.

When a new Hero releases for example, that Hero does not have to get a Nexus-themed skin, it could have a Blizzard-inspired skin instead, like a lot of Heroes had in the past. But nowadays, when a Hero releases, including Deathwing, they're probably getting a Mechanized or Star Princess skin for some reason, even when it's not what fits most.

    Oh I agree.

The challenge here is production of a video game's art is like a train. It's a giant mass of metal moving down a track. Because it is so big and moves at a certain speed lots of content has to be planned out a year in advance to get where we're going. Sometimes we have flexibility to pivot and make those cool skins in a shorter time frame but that's under perfect conditions with everything lining up just right.

For example, there's an awesome skin that we've been noodling with for almost 2 years now. It's a crossover skin that one of our other artists came up with and I think you guys are going to love. There's no release date and a few weeks ago finished the high poly and low poly model. I have been working on it in between other higher priority tasks. This means I'm currently working on something else that is actually scheduled for release. I'm hoping I can get it done soon so It can go through Animation and maybe FX if we're lucky. After that it needs to be pushed through the rest of the pipeline to get into your hands.

It all takes time. We want to do all of the things. Lots of people want different things in skins and it's hard to please everyone at once.
