HGC Mid-Season Brawl - losers' round 1 :: L5 (KR #1) vs Nomia (ANZ) :: Discussion Thread

Previous match thread: HGC Mid-Season Brawl - Group stage :: Tiebreaker matches :: Discussion Thread.

The Australia/New Zealand underdogs will take on the reigning world champions in the first match of the playoff bracket. Taking down one of the tournament favorites seems far-fetched even for Nomia’s Robert ‘robadobah’ Purling. “We aren’t really banking much on this series; we just want to have fun,” he said. “We will just play our game and what works for us.”

With that said, L5 has not looked like L5 at this tournament. They dropped a map to eStar and lost all three battlegrounds they have played against Team Dignitas. “L5 is replacing two people and haven’t scrimmed with two [of their] players,” Robadobah explained. “It’s like the ‘old’ L5 hasn’t been practicing. They haven’t been playing as well, but at the end of the day they’re still L5. They still have a chance to place high in the tournament.”

When?

The match is planned to start at 10:00 CET / 1:00 PT, 90 minutes after this post was posted.

HGC Mid-Season Brawl

HGC Mid-Season Brawl is the first Heroes tournament in 2017 featuring teams from the entire world. 12 teams play to determine the world champions: two best teams from each major region (South Korea, Europe, North America, China) and the champions of minor region championships (Taiwan, Australia & New Zealand, Southeast Asia, Latin America). Tournament winners get 100,000 USD out of the total prize pool of 250,00 USD.

On June 10-14, a group stage was played with two groups of six teams. Two bottom teams from both groups were eliminated and the tournament moved on to the playoffs - a double elimination bracket. Here, top two teams from each group start in the upper bracket semi-finals while 3rd and 4th placed teams have to fight through the lower bracket. All matches are best-of-5, except for the best-of-7 Grand Final where the upper bracket winner starts with a one game lead. The playoffs are played from June 17 to June 19 during DreamHack Summer in Jönköping, Sweden.

Match format

This match is a best-of-5 series.

Each team bans one map. Then, the "home" team chooses a map for the first game. In the following games of a match, the losing team of the previous game will have the choice for Battlegrounds selection or first hero pick in the draft.

Battleground bans

  • L5: Braxis Holdout
  • Nomia: Cursed Hollow

Game version

HGC Mid-Season Brawl is played on the May 31 balance patch. D.Va is allowed.

Casters, especially on game 1 Grubby had quite an echo.

We've changed the sound levels, the casters are quite literally in the audience so we'll keep playing with what we can!

With ingame heavy interlaced again x.x

I don't mind the 720p broadcast, in fact, outside of game it doesn't look bad, but ingame interlaced makes me get headaches.

I agree, looking into it! Some fixes can't be done til broadcast is over though :/
