Of all the existing HGC teams in the Crucible, Synergy are among the most likely to lose their spot in the HGC. In Phase 1 of the regular season, they only managed to win series against BeGenius. Their opponents have plenty of data to draw on, and will likely fully exploit the weaknesses of Synergy if given the chance. Synergy should avoid Sky Temple at all cost; they’re currently on a 10-game losing streak on the Battleground.
Team Zealot is a hodgepodge of former players from Team Liquid, Natus Vincere, and Team Dignitas. Matic ‘Zarmony’ Mikec competed with Dignitas at BlizzCon 2015, while Francisco Antonio ‘GranPkt’ Núñez Sorribas was a part of the fabled 2015 Team Liquid that went on a year-long tour de force in Europe thanks to the help of now retired brothers Juan ‘VortiX’ Moreno Durán and Pedro ‘LucifroN’ Moreno Durán. With this experience under their belts, Team Zealot are favoured to claim Synergy’s spot in the HGC.

Two top teams from the HGC Open Division play in the HGC Crucible against two bottom teams from the HGC pro league to decide who will take two spots in the league for the next phase.
Winner of the HGC Open Divison Playoffs had the right to choose which team from the HGC league they wanted to play. In Europe, Team gangang chose to play against X, forcing Team Zealot to play against X. In North America, Even in Death chose X, so Imported Support had to play X.
The winner of each Crucible match gets a place in the HGC, while the losers will have to fight for it in the Open Division for the next half a year.
Match format
Matches in the Crucible are best-of-7!
Each team bans one battleground. Then, the "home" team chooses a battleground for the first game. In the following games of a match, the losing team of the previous game will have the choice for battleground selection or first hero pick in the draft.
