New MVP system HYPE thread

Is there anyone else REALLY HYPED about the new MVP system about to be released in the PTR ?

I love it on Overwatch and even if I don't really like the game itself, I've always been excited by the MVP system at the end. It feels really good to be rewarded by some impartial judge like that, and it really gives something to look forward to. Also the vote system is like "yay, people actually thought I did a great job !".

I don't think it will give players some incentive to do non-constructive things (like taking mercs to get the headhunter reward). I think people will aim for the MVP title, and if the system is good it will be given to someone that gets kills, does damage, fulfill his role and soaks. Basically someone that you want in your team. So let's hope the system is good and doesn't only reward the Chromie that aimed at Chen healed by Morales during the whole game, or the Nazeebo that was afk half the game but still somehow tops all the damage stats.

One problem right now is that you can be top deaths but also top damage, exp and kills, or no damage but not dying either and you don't know if you did a good job. You always have one stat that you are good at to reassure you that you did a good job. But with this, you either know you did a good job, which is very rewarding, or you know that someone played better than you (and sometimes 5 of them), probably the same person that said "please back when we ping Sylv" twice during the game before giving up. Hopefully you can even think back and says "ok, next time I will be a bit more careful so I don't die as much and get better stats overall" or "well, this Abathur that I didn't see all game actually did all the job, no wonder it was so easy !"

I really hope that it will make the playerbase improve because they will want to get that award instead of focusing on who was the noob that lost the game (hint : it was everyone when they started to type instead of play). Maybe they will understand that getting killed just to delay an objective or to start an hopeless 3v1 because "Chen had not much HP left" is not actually helpful. Maybe people will understand that they are not above their rank (because guess what, they don't get MVP more than anyone else) and that they need to actually improve their play to climb and not to complain about mmr hell.

I think "listen, stop typing and get that MVP award to prove me that you are actually the best player and that I should have listened to you" will be my copy pasta everytime someone starts to flame.

I've waited a long time for this, I'm ready to never get any MVP award ever. GET HYPED !

Leave it to Blizz to put a smile on my face even when running late. :)

Leave it to players to do it for me :)

Thanks for stopping in, Travis. I enjoyed your interview with Chu, it was funny also seeing you try to understand some of our Chu sub memes!

That live stream was so much fun. Chu8 is awesome.

Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised but as a support player I don't feel like I'll enjoy the system. It's just going to be a system that rewards the assassins for doing damage imo.

As a healer, many of the best things you do (a good cleanse) goes unnoticed.

I also play a lot of tank and I don't want to be the MVP because the brainless system thought I did good because I took a lot of damage. That's not the job of a good tank. A good tank gets the team kills and that isn't really represented in such a system.

I guess you could say I'm skeptical it has the brains to pick who the real mvp is unless it's obvious like someone leading hero, siege, exp with 0 deaths.

One of the cool bits about a live game is that we can use all the actual game data and run it against our internal development. We've been doing this for the last few months for the MVP award to make sure every role is represented.

The non-MVP awards will skew more toward one role since those awards are much more specific, but based on all the games ya'll are currently playing, MVP itself is pretty evenly distributed across the roles.

I'm hoping it helps bring attention to roles and heroes that aren't as visible, but can have a huge impact on the success of a match.
