Riot probably could've received less flack if they opened a womens-only panel ALONGSIDE the already existing one
Some other things I want to say:
This seems more like a rushed decision in light of the Kotaku article, and poorly thought out. I'm sure they wished to encourage more women and I'm happy for that, but in their hurry to show immediate results, they screwed up.
"No one is sacred." If I don't see anything major happen to DZK over what Sanjuro got fired over, I'll be pretty disappointed in Riot's "We're Sorry" statement, which I frankly thought was actually pretty good.
And turns out budget cuts are becoming apparent in all of Riot's departments, not just Esports.

You're totally right, it is scheduled like a panel. What I'm trying to dispel is the idea that this is some huge presentation that is exclusively happening before 2:30 and in no way available after. Sorry if that seemed like shifting the discussion, really not my goal here.
12-3 are conversations with a few awesome and talented Rioters, one who is also speaking on the narrative panel later in the day (open to everyone) and also at the extended Q&A after back at the room (also open to everyone). I'm sure she's more than happy to cover the same things she did earlier in the day (I would assume the other two Rioters are as well, I just haven't confirmed when they'll be back at the room).
I get that the heart of what's bothering people runs much deeper than just the scheduling for the day. As I've said in other places, that's a much larger conversation I'd like to have, and not one I want to start in these threads - I just want everyone to have all the correct info, both for visiting us at PAX and for the sake of debating what Riot did / didn't do.

Duplicating some info i've been posting in a few threads - what u/AlphEta314 describes is essentially what is happening. Here's the details:
First up, these were not panels the way our panel on narrative at 2:00 today is (open to everyone, main theater btw). This is just time that women and non-binary Rioters had volunteered to set aside for other women and non-binary people to talk casually with them about their personal experience in the games industry and offer advice/feedback. We're talking 1-2 Rioters with 3-10 players. I get that might still bother you, but want to be clear about what's actually happening over here.
Many of those Rioters were also present for "Ask a Rito" time later in the day (and are later today as well, if you're here in Seattle come say hi). It's not broken up into topics like Art and Production the way it is in the earlier hours of the day, but the same Rioters are available to talk about all the same things.
Besides those Rioters, there's a small army of Rioters hanging out by the cosplay repair station next door, and we would love to chat with you about anything and everything Riot, League, and video games. I personally had two great conversations with two dudes outside of room 613 ranging from how Riot operates to what they can do to improve their resume and chances of getting hired.
If you still hate us, i'm not here to change your mind, just want everyone to have all the right info and know they're welcome to come talk to Rioters at PAX.
