he absolutely doesn't deserve anything less. but being super real - the debate around this, hell the world we live in, is a lot more nuanced than just who deserves what.
Just wanna say that I appreciate that you're coming onto reddit and replying back during such a controversial time. Just the fact that something like this can cause such a huge controversy shows that there is a sexism issue going on and that this is making more people aware. I do however think that riot could have handled the situation WAY better. From my perspective, it seems that by Riot making a panel for women and nb people only before a certain time, it feels like Riot is saying they aren't confident in their ability to hire people based on their skills and whoever is best for the position, and more than they are trying to create diversity in the company for the sake of change. If Riot wanted to create a place where women can feel safe during the PAX event, they could have created a separate support panel. Honestly, I think if they did that, there wouldn't have even been any kind of controversy. If anything it would create good publicity for riot to include a less prominent player base in their community
Yeah i completely see what you're saying. Like we tweeted out, we're still standing by the decision to give women and non-binary players their own time, but i have no doubt we will be talking about how we communicated all this (and I mean all this) in the next week lol

But he was told to get to the back of the line because panels that are directly related to what he wants to do with his career we're unaccessible to him because of his gender, as many people have stated if they made women the priority but still left the event open to all genders we would have avoided this mess. We don't tell women we see them and want to listen to what they have to say by telling men to essentially fuck off for an attribute they have absolutely no control over.
The content (i.e. casual conversations with Rioters) is absolutely available to him (and anyone else at PAX right now), we're just asking that if you're not women or non-binary that you come by after 2:30 rather than before. Just want that to be super clear.
Totally get if that doesn't change how you feel. I don't want to dive super deep into it right now, but i'm sure there will be more opportunities in the coming days to talk about it more.
I still feel it is a shame though what is probably a 30 minute presentation (give or take) is compressed down into 30 or so seconds so everyone has a chance to be able to ask questions and meet rioters. Why is shit the rainbow being punished for being born a certain gender which he has no control over.
BGYeti i have some more details that may be helpful but fr i am falling asleep typing right now. When i find some free time tomorrow, I'll update this comment.
Yesterday at PAX i went to a panel and hung around to talk to the speakers. Others had already made a beeline to them and formed a small circle by the time i walked up. Some people were standing on the outside and had less access to the conversation being had. The front of the crowd was almost all dudes.
Those dudes weren't doing anything wrong, but situations like that are pretty common in gaming. In my mind, prioritizing the women and non-binary people of PAX was a way to say hey, i see you standing in the back, why don't you come up front.
Now i would imagine that if I_SHIT_THE_RAINBOW was in that circle and then told "hey, go to the back, you're not allowed up front" that would feel pretty awful - just like it did yesterday - and maybe like a punishment. What should have happened was encouragement to come back later and an explanation that it wasn't to limit him, but raise up others at PAX.
You can absolutely disagree with the approach, btw. Just want to shed light on the thinking behind it, since you asked a genuine question and i totally get that this was not how some players expected it to work.
Hey I_SHIT_THE_RAINBOW, I hear you. Just confirmed that the Rioter who is giving the Designer/Producer talk will be available tomorrow at 4 during the "Ask a Rito" hour - you should definitely come by.
But pls don't shit the rainbow in the room or we won't get our security deposit back from PAX
