Ability to see cards in hand

This game looks awesome, however I noticed it suffers from the same problem of mobile hearthstone or worse. The problem is you can't see the full cards in your hand without hovering over them, and when you do hover over your cards they cover the board, causing the viewer to always be missing information.

It's especially annoying watching a streamer constantly hovering over the cards to see what the play is. Often when watching a stream I like to figure out what play I would make and see if it's the same as the streamer would make but that's harder to do when I can only see the mana cost.

I read through the dev AMA but didn't see any answers to this. Hopefully the ui designers have something in mind as I seriously think this is a deal breaker for me.

It's not good ui design to have to hover over for information you constantly need access to. The boards in the middle look like they could be condensed down slightly to allow the ability see the cards and we wouldn't need to see the opposing players full cards just our own.

Hey Elements604 - Thanks for posting and the feedback!

I’m a UX designer/Producer for LoR and am responsible for the UI of the game. I meant to post about our PC hand in the AMA, but work got in the way. Anyways I’m also not happy with how much of our cards are being shown in the hand without hovering and we’re planning on getting some improvements there.

The challenge as another redditor brought up is all of our different areas of the board leave us super low on vertical space. In the past we explored shrinking the board, but found interactions in the board suffered a lot. You’re absolutely right on about your opponent’s hand (we also have got to fix that awful flutter!)

The team has a couple of ideas I’m excited about, but I’ll be upfront that 1. It’ll be very difficult to get the “full” cards and 2. I can’t make any predictions of when it’ll reach players

Anyways thanks for commenting and I hope you play soon, enjoy the game, and continue helping us make it awesome!!

The combat area seems a bit bigger than necessary to me, maybe that could get shrunk? Or maybe it could shrink down when no units are in it and grow when they are played?

I'd also love to see a way to quickly see how many cards are in your hand, since it's hard to count at a glance with the small size. Maybe a number somewhere?

Great ideas! I like the way you think. We actually tried all of those in our early preproduction phase along with many, many others. I think one of the coolest parts of my job was being on the project all the way from day 1.

So what I don’t want to do is explain why yours (& other’s) good ideas didn’t work for us cause it come off dismissive or just generally feel bad. But also I assume it’s a “how the sausage gets made” situation and that no one actually wants to know.

I’m wondering if maybe I could write up something and post it somewhere. What do you all think?

Oh and adding a number for your cards in hand is already on our backlog (especially for mobile)

Oh and thanks for feedback! It is really cool to be able talk about the game with you all!
