It seems like Riot is hitting every point any other company has been missing

Looking at LoR it seems like we're getting an awesome economy system, free drafts, fast balancing of the cards, good customization of the game through boards, cards and more. I think I've never been more hyped for a card game at this point. I've been a league player since season 3 and I'm passionate about the universe both games are based on! Can't wait for thursday to come hoping to get that sweet mail and start playing.

Major props to Riot Games for developing such a good game in a market already set. Let's hope they'll keep watching out and improve what other companies have been failing to do

With the new video, we know now the details for the draft.

You can get 3 "free drafts" a week, either from tokens or using shards. If you want to play more than 3 times you can only buy them.

Since every draft allows for 2 expeditions, with only the best result giving you rewards, this is almost one expedition per day. Also, you can go 7-6 and still get the highest reward, since you need to lose twice to be eliminated before 6 wins.

Hi, I'm a LoR dev! Just to be clear, you can 'buy in' 3 times - with shards, coins, or tokens. After that, you go to open play, where you don't have to buy in but don't earn rewards.

Have you considered making open play available even if you haven't done your 3 runs? I'm sure a lot of players would rather do their daily matches in a draft format over a constructed one.

We're definitely keeping a close eye on all feedback received for this mode, and everything else in the game!

Can you play in the open play before completing the 3 buy in runs?

No, you have to complete the three rewarded Expeditions first.

Thanks for that news. Please clarify - You can't go infinite expedition as a good F2P player, since only 3 runs/week yield any rewards, correct?

Going infinite in this world will be a little different. You can earn enough to buy in without spending each week, then you'll have open play where there is no entrance fee but only rewards experience.

    Cool, good to know, thanks!

Thanks for asking! I can't wait to hear what people think once they've tried it.

We know you're aiming for roughly one balance patch a month, but how many changes are you aiming to have per patch?

Let me flip this around...how many cards changed per month do you think would be ideal?

We're somewhere between 1 and 40 :) I imagine it would fluctuate based on the severity of what we're seeing at the time (and the opportunities that excite us).

If you complete expedition on your first trial, what incentives are there to take the second trail seriously? Are you obligated to finish the second trial run anways?

Up entirely to your own motivations! You can draft a silly deck, draft a serious deck, or surrender your Expedition after you finish your first trial.

Hi! Will the open play and paid expeditions be in separate pools? I imagine there will be a lot of frustration from paid expedition players who think they are going up against someone who has been retiring open play drafts until he got a godly draft.

If they are not in separate pools, will you guys use something to prevent abuse like a limit for retiring decks, limit for expeditions per day, shadow pool for abusers (make the number of drafts done this week a variable in your matchmaker), etc?

edit: And if you guys REALLY don't want to open up open play to everyone without them paying first, I think you should have two expedition types: Standard Expedition (1 champ reward guaranteed), Economy/Budget Expedition (cheaper, but no champ reward guaranteed). It even fits the expedition theme lol.

Everything looks really great. I haven't been this excited for a game in a LONG time. I've been telling my friends to try it. It seems like you guys studied MtG, Artifact, Yugioh, hstone, and Gwent and learned from their successes and shortcomings to make the GOAT.

For now, because it's a preview patch, they will be the same queue, but we are investigating ways to protect players after launch. Currently, we have a 20 minute cooldown for Open Play to discourage spam-surrendering. I'm going to be a little tight-lipped for now, but protecting the integrity of the mode is important to us!

Thank you very much for your kind words. <3 We are huge fans of the genre!

Hi, ive just watched the vid, but im wondering if we still get win/loss xp like in normal games, in expeditions? Do daily quests also work in expeditions?

And if yes, is this only for the 3 buy ins a week or also for the free play?

Can i if i like playing expeditions unlock everything just the same as if i play on de ladder?

and a final question are the expeditions ranked? So i have 5 wins will i play vs people with 5 wins. If i have 2 wins vs 2 win people?

    Thanks!

You can receive experience and complete quests in Expeditions - whether it's the buy in mode or the open play mode. We want you to be able to unlock lots of content with this mode!
You will be matched against people at the same point of the Trial as you are - since you get to evolve your deck as you go, it would be unfair to match someone with 1 win against 6 wins!

We do not have ranked for Expeditions at this time.

They are not going to, and shouldn't change half the cards in the game every month.

We agree with this! What you're about to experience is continued development on Set 1, as opposed to what we'll eventually call a "balance patch" (which will be smaller and more digestible).

We're going to need to experiment to find the right balance, but we want to be careful to not go overboard with too many changes too often. Some players have a HUGE appetite for change, but we know for other players that too much change can make logging back into the game intimidating and overwhelming.

Personally what I'm most interested to learn when we have more players and a 24/7 game is about how quickly the meta will shift globally and what the differences will be between the different regions. If Japan discovers something OP, how long until all Regions catch on? What does that mean in terms of how quickly we'll be able to react?
