Progress lost on moving from guest account to registration

I played through part of the tutorial, then it blocked me when I moved back to the main menu, asking for an account. The screen shown did not give any assurance or clarity, which made me nervous that registration errors could wipe my progress. To prevent issues, I opened another window, registered an account there, then went back to the first window and logged in. It gave me a json error and then booted me back to the beginning.

I'm not asking for my progress back. Errors during initial user experience are fatal to user retention, so that's it for me. This is just a heads-up.
