Champion, Emerald Dream needs your help!
Final edit for now: While Blizzard has deleted threads, they have also said (according to a Blue post a couple weeks ago) that if we want change, we need to provide feedback. Together we can do just that. I'm working on getting a website up and going - it's going to take a few days and certainly isn't live yet. But check out www.bringbackthedream.com
I wasn't kidding when I said I will make our voices heard. Lets do this. It's go time.
Champions, do not give up. This is not our final hour! Keep sharing, we need more feedback! We need the people who make real decisions to know exactly how we feel. I will not give up. We must not give up. The light is with us!
We got a blue post: https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/3vpr17/champion_emerald_dream_needs_your_help/cxpxkfx
Edit Again: PLEASE ASK YOUR FRIENDS AND GUILDMATES to comment on this. We really need to get some traction going here. Everyone is bringing up good points and I appreciate it!
Reddit, Emerald Dream desperately needs your help.
Hi there. My name is Eldruin, and I'm a Holy Paladin that calls Emerald Dream home.
Multiboxing. It's a topic that once was seen as admirable and cool even. I remember many a times stopping and saying "WOW look at that multiboxer, that is so cool!" as they mounted up on Ashes of Alar and danced around the skies leaving streamers everywhere. Or having all their toons dance at the same time, or other neat cool little tricks. Remember that? When coming across a multiboxer was a rare sight that was met with admiration?
There's a problem now. Emerald Dream had a reputation as a World PvP server. It was KNOWN for world pvp. What it has become however, is a graveyard of innocent bystanders to a war being waged by multiboxers on each other.
Now I know you're just going to say pvp server you asked for it, but I'll get to that in a minute when I answer some commonly asked questions / excuses and other stuff.
There are a few (and more coming, unfortunately) multiboxers who call Emerald Dream home. Now, this has an opportunity to be super cool, fun, and exciting. But it's not. Day in and day out, it's war. Stormshield and Warspear are contantly filled with multiboxers killing each other, and everyone in their paths.
"But Eldruin, it's a PVP server, fight them and defend your city!" Oh honey, how I wish we could. The problem is they bring so many toons and use spells and toys that specifically lag out the server. On a good night, you'll be able to bubble hearth after a 10 minute loading screen. On a bad one? Your disconnected and told "World Server Down" for up to an hour while the server restarts. (Note: only crashes the area the boxer is in, not the entire server.)
"Whats the problem? I don't see whats so wrong with all of this..." While multiboxing is perfectly legal and violates no rules, it's extremely detrimental to the health of the server at the moment. Constantly trade chat explodes with arguments about multiboxing, from both sides of the spectrum. There's people for it and against it. The server is taking a big hit. People are getting frustrated, more multiboxers are pledging to transfer, and nothing is being done about it. Not to mention that Stormshield and Warspear are constantly crashing. Say you queue up for a Battleground or dungeon while in one of these places. You enter it, do your thing, and then come back. Oh... The multiboxer is here. How do I know? I can't actually load in and eventually get booted out and get a world server down for a minimum of 10 minutes to a maximum of up to an hour. This is ultimately the problem. Not dying in Stormshield, that happens all the time. Not a big deal. But crashing the server itself? That's an issue.
"What is the perfect end result for you? What do you think needs to happen?" First off, I want to say that multiboxing shouldn't be banned. (Partially because Blizzard knows so much money comes from it that it will never happen.) Multiboxing itself isn't the problem. It's the attidue of the boxers that is. Here's a couple messages from one of them on our server:
[MULTIBOXER]: Anyway, all of this is irrelivant
[MULTIBOXER]: You can whine and cry about multiboxers all you want
[MULTIBOXER]: But its only going to make us give less of a shit and turn your server into more of a playground
[MULTIBOXER]: Keep whining about boxers on your server, i'll just bring more with me.
[MULTIBOXER]: Go on
[3] [MULTIBOXER]: Yes i am. I have warlocks on ED, and i'll be transferring 20 dk's to ed soon
[3] [Friend of Boxer]: ED is bunch of garbage players anyway
[3] [BYSTANDER]: What's your RP backstory
[3] [MULTIBOXER]: rp is gross
[3] [MULTIBOXER]: Thats my backstory
This is what is not okay. Literally talking about turning our server into a playground. It's gotten to the point where they do not care what happens to the server. When one of them starts to lose, they crash the server by summoning every pet/toy/spell they can that has some type of graphical effect. That way, if the server crashes... Well, nobody really lost now did they? I believe multiboxing needs to have limits. 5 toons max? 10 toons max? I don't know, thats up to Blizzard. There absolutely needs to be a limit though. One of the boxers on our server has OVER 80 toons that he brings at any given time. ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
"What can we do about it? Isn't multiboxing completely legal according to the TOS?"
Here's the problem. People are getting frustrated. People are getting angry. So constantly you'll see "REPORT SO AND SO" followed by a huge argument starting. This happens because people are so frustrated with the situation. What needs to happen is people need to respectfully show Blizzard that we do not agree with this behavior and that something needs to be done in general about multiboxing. We need to get Blizzards attention, without all the swearing and reporting and name calling and the other stuff that is happening right now. We need to tweet them, have a conversation here on reddit, maybe even write (RESPECTFULLY AND TRUTHFULLY) tickets to the support team. What this requires is a change to the Terms of Service. The devs don't set the ToS, and neither does customer service. THEY DO however, report to the people who can make it happen. Blizzard, I know it doesn't happen often, but we are desperately in need of a change to the ToS. Please help us out.
I decided to say something after hearing the multiboxers call our server their playground and constantly hearing about how much they hate the players here. It's getting to the point where it's just unacceptable now.
If you have any ideas on how to get Blizzards attention on this issue, or if you have anything you want to add, I want to hear it! I need some rational conversation instead of the yelling and name calling that happens in trade chat.
Edit: This thread on the battle.net forums has some great info too: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/20043425261
Edit again, sorry: But Eldruin, I'm not from Emerald Dream and I don't have experiences with multiboxing, what can I do? Still add your feedback, do you feel like you would enjoy the kind of treatment we are receiving? Is that something that would make you say "YES I can't wait to log into wow and go to Stormshield and get some PvP gear!" Let them know. Your opinion counts too. I would ask that you mention that you aren't from Emerald Dream though. I want Blizzard to get REAL information from both our server, and other players as well.

OH GOD WHAT IS THIS WHERE AM I
Ok so, as mentioned in the OP, multiboxing is usually fine according to the TOS. However, from memory, it's a pretty grey area. I'll kick up a discussion about this particular case tomorrow. Making no promises whatsoever but we'll talk about it.
