As we continue exploring new deck ideas for the Rising Tides expansion, today we'll take a look at Maokai and some fun decks to try. There is nothing quite like the vengeance of an angry tree, and these decks will prove he's more dangerous than you think. Don't hesitate to share your own creations by using our Deckbuilder!
Due to the nature of Maokai's special abilities you will find most of the decks that feature him will combine Shadow Isles and Bilgewater, as these are currently the only regions with the Toss keyword. You'll discover that the Saplings he generates are really quite useful.
Maokai Aggro
This is a fun deck that focuses on killing your own units as quickly as possible. You either flip Kalista early and cause all sorts of trouble or destroy your opponent's deck with Maokai. Either way, it's a blast!
Children are a gift...and I'm giving them to you.
Maokai Midrange
This is an extremely powerful deck that can take you to the Deep by turn four. If Nautilus hits the board, then all your Sea Monsters are not only huge, but extremely cheap!
Maokai Combo
The goal here is to mill your deck as quickly as possible, slam down Maokai, then use Pilfered Goods to draw the rest of your opponent's deck.
I'm telling my kids this was Groot.
Maokai Control
You've got nearly as many spells as you have units in the deck, and your goal is to let your Neverglade Collector do a lot of work for you until Commander Ledros deals the finishing blow.
Comments
The Maokai aggro deck is really not optimized!!!
As a Master palyer myself with peak rank 1 (I dont want to brag, but this is the reason why you should listen to me), I'd like to share a more optimized version of the deck!!
You always play 3 glimpses in this deck if possible. Also when playing sharks, you should always include monkey idol as well!!
As a nearly mono shadow isles deck, you should defnitly consider running Wraithcallers and mistwraiths over arachnid horrow (especially because you dont run elise as well). Wraithcaller is also a great target for kalista to bring back, as it summons another mistwraith!!
Soul Shepard is also much better then Stirred spirits!!
