I'm not disagreeing with the deliciousness of your suggestions, but at a certain point it's no longer a grilled cheese, but just another sandwich. The beauty of a great grilled cheese is how few ingredients you need. IMO Brode was already pushing it with that mustard. I will, however, always defend a couple of tomato slices.
I’ve always considered how you cook it to be the defining factor of what makes a grilled cheese. Adding extra ingredients just spices things up a little.
For example, you can have a cheddar cheese, ham and mustard sandwich. Or you can have a grilled cheese with ham and mustard. Exact same ingredients, but very different flavor all because of the grilling.
I agree with everything except for perhaps the onions, I think the onions kinda take over the entire sandwich and make the whole thing taste like onions. But I agree on the avocados, they are one of my favorite foods!
Yeah i think you have to love onions to want them on your grilled cheese. Love some red onion.

I don't know about everyone else but I personally think mustard is super gross. And also orange cheese isn't natural.
I prefer my grilled cheese with pepperoni and Munster.
I used to like mustard, but now I don't.
I like my grilled cheese sandwiches with meat in them. More substance and stuff.
But you should also try the amazingness that is, a grilled peanut butter sandwich. Jelly is optional, but a welcome addition.
Mustard is god-tier! Though, it definitely seems to be one of those polarizing condiments so I can't be upset with anyone that doesn't like it :P Personally, I've got 8 different types of mustard on hand right now in all their seedy glory.
Not a huge fan of cheese though. The only thing I really enjoy it on is Pizza, it feels so unnecessary on everything else. I am without a doubt, crazy.
To each his own, taste is subjective.
I agree that cheese is a little over-rated by some people, but it is good on more than just pizza for sure!
