Harbinger of THICC
She didn't skip leg day.
Okay, so Frost DK actually already has enough cards to warrant an entire deck. A spellslinger deck built out of:
AND the reveal season has only started. Damn.
Rimefang Sword and Deathchiller combo naturally with one another, giving you functionality like that of Wild Pyromancer when the enemy board is full and face damage when it's not.
"Better Paladin" seems to be a reoccuring theme with Death Knight.
There's also potential here with Queen Azshara as she can generate another cheap spell to help spam Deathchiller damage. A potential problem could be weenie druid decks that can get boardwide health buffs; outside of that, you should be able to poke the enemy board out of existence and spam leftover damage into face.
These cards, Marrow Manipulator, and Brann Bronzebeard all seem to synergize well with a Sire Denathrius finisher because you're constantly poking down the health of enemy minions. I think you end up with possibly fewer bodies on the board than, say, Spooky Mage trying the same thing, but Corpses give more utility along the way.
The only other deck strong against this is . . . another Death Knight deck. Anti-Magic Shell is a boardwide buff that makes this strategy harder.
Frost DK is going to be vicious against control. Killing your minions (generating corpses) just helps you do damage to their face.
Okay, cards;
Deathchiller - Not sure how this works because the description is distinctly different from Flamewaker. I think if theres no minions then this only fires once at face. Maybe Im wrong.
Harbinger of Winter - Its just a better Loot Hoarder
Rimefang Sword - Frost DK already features very power spells like Frostwyrm's Fury and can already cheat mana with cards like Horn of Winter. And suddenly here's a card that makes them even better and can be tutored out with Runeforging. That's so much tempo it reminds me distinctly of tempo dhunter on launch.
Might of Menethil - Two good weapons to choose from. Rimefang would probably be favored against faster decks while this is better against midrange and above. Its really all about what you want to accomplish. But if I had to choose between the two I'd just go for rimefang while only does 2 less net damage and is infinitely better. Its not like frost DK is lacking freeze effects anyway.
But to put in perspective, this is still a good weapon that'll find a home in any other class.
You are correct: it requires two (or more) different enemies to fire both projectiles, otherwise it's just hitting face once per spell. Duels has other cards with this phrasing, for reference as-to its functionality.
So...yeah. Not exactly mini-Flamewaker, but could still be fine for chip damage whilst you whittle down their board.
Deathchiller - As YourPrivateNightmare already pointed out Flamewanker for DK. In order to gauge this card's viability, we'll need to take a look at the cards' spell pool; however, Horn of Winter and Icy Touch are a very good start.
Harbinger of Winter - The Deathrattle might be a little slow, but they didn't give this card 2 Frost Runes with no reason: will be a 2 of in every DK deck that can afford running it.
Rimefang Sword - OTK enabler? Maybe. Aggro DK already wants to run Bone Breaker, but with Runeforging you can afford playing multiple weapons.
Might of Menethil - Now the Freeze effects are starting to gain remarkable traction. I like the fact that this effect is capped at 3 targets, but that doesn't mean the card won't be good: in fact, this is going to be pretty much a Frost Nova that Freezes less and pushes more damage.
More powerful cards for frost death knight
Deathchiller -
A 2 mana flamewaker is of course really good, especially with cards like horn of winter and glacial advance in death knight’s arsenal, it might want alittle more card draw/generation than what we currently see, I still can’t imagine this not seeing play atleast eventually
Harbinger of winter -
A nice 2 drop that tutors a spell is as good in death knight as it is in every other class
Rimefang sword -
A really nice weapon for frost death knight, let’s them discount their spells and is a nice target for runeforging
Might of menethil -
Seems like another nice weapon for frost death knight, it might be kicked out by rimefang, if they want the discount or it’ll kick rimefang out if they want the efficient stall, maybe both will make the cut
Can I just say I really like the inclusion of "up to" as a mechanic. To think how many previously broken cards could have been fixed if someone bothered to put a hard cap on their effect. Let's hope this isn't DK exclusive.
Frostwanker
I feel like frost DK is going to be everywhere on ladder on release
I will be one of them :)
Me too!
Team Blood where ya at?
Kind of thorn between Blood and Frost since Overseer Frigidara looks bussin', but Blood has sooo many cool cards.
Unholy cries in a corner lol
Unholy is up my alley but i need to see more cards first so for now prolly Blood
