We've got a new featured location in MARVEL SNAP and it's Krakoa!
Krakoa is a completely new location being added to MARVEL SNAP as part of the March Season: Days of Future Past. On turn 5, it takes over and plays both players' cards for them.
Krakoa is like a mini-Ego, in that it can only screw you over control your play for one turn, rather then for the entire time that it's revealed. This means you probably don't want to play a deck that depends on playing a specific card on turn 5 (like those that run Sera), as Krakoa may not share your opinion about the best way to win the game. It may pay off to take a Scarlet Witch or Storm into battle with you.
However you choose to plan for the featured location, you'd better get used to it; being a featured location means that Krakoa will have a 50% chance to appear for 24 hours, from 8 PM PT Tuesday night to 8 PM PT Wednesday night (2 AM UTC Wednesday to 2 AM UTC Thursday).
What Are Featured Locations in MARVEL SNAP?
There are two different types of location events in MARVEL SNAP, both of which have a 50% chance of appearing for the next 24 hours.
- Sunday's Hot Location that always pulls from existing locations.
- Wednesday's Featured Location that usually shows off new locations, but will pull from the pool of existing locations from time to time.
This helps pave way for new deckbuilding strategies as you may want to be playing something else should the bonus better benefit cards you aren't playing with. We've seen this previously with the featured location, Monster Island, whose boosted appearances meant many players ran Shang-Chi to destroy the 9 Power Monster.
Hot Decks for Krakoa
If you're looking for ideas of what decks you can play to the Featured Location, we've got you covered: with recommended decks for players just starting out in Series 1, players still moving up through Series 2, and players who are starting to fill their collections with cards from Series 3, 4, and 5.
Series 1 Curve Zoo
Our best plan for Krakoa is to play a deck that can fill in its early turns with cheap stuff, then leave Krakoa with only a few choices (all of them good) on turn 5. This Zoo deck can play cheap stuff, then let Krakoa take over to play an on-curve Blue Marvel.
Series 2 Ongoing
Another option is to give Krakoa a plethora of 5-Drops to choose from after playing on-curve for the early turns, then buff whatever Ongoing card it played with a turn 6 Spectrum.
Series 3 Sand Ramp
In Series 3, Electro comes to play and gives Krakoa enough Energy to play one this deck's 6-Drops; Sandman is included to help ensure that Krakoa can't do anything to powerful for the opponent.
Series 3 Destroyer
Another deck featuring Electro, this Destroyer deck is so straightforward that a computer shouldn't be able to mess it up; and if it does, you've got a final turn with 7 Energy to put things right again.
Series 4 BastRiot
In our opinion, Patriot decks are flexible, fun, and hard to screw up. This Patriot deck runs Bast and Valkyrie for extra Power for its little things, and doesn't give Krakoa a whole lot of chances to make the wrong choice.
