- Leeroy, Fiery War Axe, Wrath of Air Totem, and more rejoin Standard.
- There are a few new cards coming that are inspired by Warcraft Rumble.
- There are old card upgrades, disruption to Druid ramping mana, and the reduction in rune costs for Death Knights.
Read on for more information including a full list of all the cards coming to the Pegasus Core Set.
Quote From Blizzard With each new Hearthstone year comes an update to the free Core Set that all players have access to. This year, Hearthstone’s 10th year, brings an exciting Core Set refresh designed to celebrate Hearthstone’s history and future with iconic old favorites and a few new friends! The new Core Set goes live when the Year of the Pegasus begins, but it’s just one of the many things we’re doing to celebrate throughout the year. This blog goes over all our Core Set updates, but you can learn more about all the other new year and anniversary festivities in our dedicated Year of the Pegasus blog.
Iconic Cards Return
We’re charging into the new year head-first! This Core Set, we’re making bold calls and bringing back some old favorites we haven’t seen in Standard for a while, including:
Friendly New Faces
We’re also celebrating the many new friends we’ve made along the way with four new Warcraft Rumble inspired cards, added directly into this year’s Core Set:
New Keyword: Elusive
After years of hunting, we’ve finally pinned down our most evasive keyword yet: Elusive! Minions with Elusive can’t be targeted by spells or Hero Powers. We’re updating several minions to have the new Elusive keyword—including the card that you voted into Core back in December: Evasive Wyrm! We also plan to use this effect a little bit more frequently in the upcoming year.
Core Card Shakeups
Because the Core Set is the free baseline set that underpins the entire year of Hearthstone expansions, Core rotation is always a good time for us to evaluate what we want that foundation for the year to look like. We do this not just in deciding what to keep, remove, and add to Core, but also in adjustments to the cards we include.
This year, we felt it was time to uproot Druid’s ramping mechanic, reduce Rune requirements for several Death Knight cards, and upgrade some of our old favorite cards for the modern game. You can find all the upcoming changes linked here:
With that baseline known, you’re ready to jump into next expansion’s reveals. Don’t forget to check out the New Year blog for more details about the upcoming festivities—it all starts soon!

Searing Totem needs to be rotated 😡
this is year of the cancer more than pegasus.
Frostwyrm's Fury
Lesser Emerald Spellstone
Obsidian Statue + Lesser Diamond Spellstone
Spectral Cutlass + Sap
Doomguard
Fiery War Axe (Win Axe)
Alexstrasza
Leeroy Jenkins
This will be a great year !
i dont know why blizzard is allowing some fucked up AI to make all their death knight design decisions for them but at least doomguard and giants are back : )
The rune changes for DK are so awesome! My only worry is that I might lose the golden Patchwerk I got for reaching 500 wins with the class due to the Core set rotation. Can someone confirm or deny this?
Other than that, the Rumble cards look neat, imagine combining the new legendary with Paladin's aura spells...
Correct. You will lose access to all of your current Core cards if they are not part of the new Core set. Patchwerk is out, so if you didn't have a "real" copy, you will no longer have access to the card. The golden copy you got as a reward was a Core card, not a "real" card.
On the bright side, you will automatically get golden copies of all DK Core cards that are rotating in.
I like Rogue as a Secret class, I'm a little sad to see it go. That said, I'm not sad to see Druid's ramp toolkit go. It's replaced with more typical armor/control tools, which means they'll have to survive to get their mana up to do their nonsense the old-fashioned way!
Rotation never happens in a vacuum -- there's always a new expansion involved. Departing cards are often replaced with new cards that perform a similar function. We could easily see new Rogue Secret synergy, and I'd be extremely surprised if Druid doesn't get new ways to ramp.
(Also, Splish-Splash Whelp isn't going anywhere. Dragon Druid was ramping just fine without Wild Growth.)
Unless I’m missing something, here are the Core specific cards rotating out that would now need to be crafted if you want them in Wild.
Alexstrasza the Life-Binder
Ysera the Dreamer
Aegwynn, the Guardian
Selective Breeder
Shadowed Spirit
Emerald Skytalon
Alexstrasza, Breeder, and Spirit are definite crafts for me as I might have uses for them. The others are maybes. Could craft Skytalon just to have it!
Then again, open two Wild packs and I’d have the commons and Breeder. Might get lucky and pop a leggo too
I would just like to point out MCTech is no longer random. So that'll be fun.
It just struck me that they really didn't do much with Overheal. They introduced the keyword and added like two cards that have it.
Tradeable Big Game Hunter ... interesting.
Twisting Nether destroys locations ... VERY interesting.
Asphyxiate, Gnome Muncher have no runes ... gross. I always felt like runeless DK cards should be slightly bad, not auto-include.
Awww yeaaaa, my boy Deathwing, Mad Aspect makes his return for the big 10 years 🥳
Elusive keyword!!!
It finally happened!!!
Secret Hunter, Resurrect Priest. I can see the fun already :)
